dont be jealous I got a free adapter haha

Honey I am not jealous at all. At least now I don't have to worry about possible electrocution or an electrical fire starting from a device that is known to be defective and has been recalled by the manufacturer.

At least I had the common sense to return them to the manufacturer as requested and not used the opportunity to try and get a free adaptor out of it.

BTW, Apple does not owe you $100 because you bought an iPhone when they first came out. That is a price you pay for buying things when they first launch.

I'm not sending my defective one back just because they pissed me off by trying to use scare tactics by saying they'd charge me if I didn't. I just threw it in the trash.:D

Mine arrived today, Dead On Arrival.

Care to elaborate?

So after I dropped off the package in a DHL Drop-Box, I realized the letter they sent had a back side. Of course, this back side said in big bold letters at the top "DO NOT PUT IN A DHL DROP-BOX"

Great lol :p that figures

I read that and still put it in a drop box. Not allowing it to be put in a drop box makes absolutely no sense to me.

Filled out online app for replacements 2 weeks ago, got them both on same day last week (separate boxes of course). All went fine.

As long as you don't break the prongs off in the outlet, it's not a hazard at all...:D

How much box does it take to ship a dongle?

I received mine. Anyone know how Apple can possibly charge you if you don't return the old one -- what is the legality of that?

Also, so much for Apple claiming to be environment-friendly -- the box is unbelievably big (and if it's going out to the entire US iPhone 3G population, extremely wasteful).

I got mine about 5 days ago... I think. It said on that paper that was shipped with the new adapter that they could charge you $29 if you didn't return the defective one.

I know it said that but how would that actually play out? Would they send me a bill and if I refuse to pay it send it to collections? Would they just charge my iTunes account that they have on file? I'm just curious as to the legality of actually charging me.

Charger Return Process

Heres the deal, I live in an area where DHL no longer has service. So I have no way for calling for a pick up, or dropping it off.

I just got off the phone with Apple customer service and the rep I spoke with said the return label and letter was sent in error. You can return the defective charger if you like but there was no way for them to get your CC info to charge you for NOT returning the old charger unless you provided it.

So, I'm gonna take my chances with not returning the old one and see how that goes. If something does get charged I'll just reverse the charges with my bank. *shrug*

I don't understand how the big box is considered wasteful if it continues to be RECYCLED in usage...people aren't reading and just posting.

I totally agree. I look at people that post blindly and think "Such a big head for a small brain".

So I was all ready to open my new USB charger package up today.. when I realized I couldn't find my old one (I rarely used it). Should I just return the new one back sealed? Poo :(

No, don't worry about it. Toss the box in your recycle bin. They aren't charging customers that don't return their defective power plug, they are just trying to use scare tactics to get as many people as possible to return them.

When I call DHL, what do I tell them? Honestly, I'm a person that hates to deal with things over the phone.

Don't worry about calling DHL period. Toss your defective charger in the garbage.

How can you be so sure that I won't have to pay that stupid $29 dollar fee if I do that. If I could toss it, I would. But I'd like to see some reason or something that would assure me of it before I would even consider it.

Fedex or DHL

So i received my new charger and it was delivered by Fedex but the paper inside the box from apple said to ship via DHL. So do i ship the defective charger back via Fedex or DHL?

Guys, it's really not that hard. Seriously. All you have to do is read the simple directions that came with the box.

1) Peel the outside label off and presto, there's a prepaid label already on there for return shipping.

2) Put old adaptor in the box. Close box and put a piece of tape on it.

3) Call DHL via the number provided on the instruction sheet and follow the automated directions. You don't even have to talk to a real person! And Enlite, since it's sounds like you're afraid of the telephone, you can go to www.dhl.com and request a pick-up.

4) Put box on porch and then go back to doing whatever makes you happy.

It takes all of 2 minutes, and yes, it is that simple.

Anyone charged for NOT returning their old adapter?

Sorry to dig this old one up, but I was curious if Apple followed suit on their "threat" of charging $30 for not returning the defective unit.
