really appreciate all the people who came in here to respond to my original post (and I especially like all the side information about specific products)

I've reconsidered getting a hardshell case because of the added weight issue, so i suppose a cover to prevent scratches and the like would be a better idea. I'm considering getting either a Wrapsol or an iCarbons for my new Macbook pro 15in that is yet too arrive. Would anyone have any insight on the iCarbons? found little aside from installation videos on youtube and the like. I know they are like night and day: the wrapsol retains the macbooks "nakedness" while the iCarbons covers it up, but I am looking for a comparison more in terms of durability, protection, feel, any heat issues, etc.

thanks for any help!:D

PS: Oh, right, thickness. Hmmm, how to describe it. Well it's much thinner than a piece of cotton cloth (well, depending on the cloth of course!. It's thicker than a typical "sticker," but not by much. Maybe like a piece of clear plastic you would put over an iPod screen.. something like that. It is much, much thinner than a Speck hard shell (although the hard shell is a different concept, so I'm not saying it's worse).

Thank you! I've made a decision based on your posts. That tiny, tiny crumb would drive me insane after 2 hours of work. I don't think have the patience for all that work either.

I'm also clumsier than the average person, so I'll have to go with something thicker, and that covers the edges entirely. Probably neoprene...

I was in the same boat myself trying to decide between the Wrapsol vs the iCarbons vs nothing. My last MBP, a 15" 2,2 got a little scuffed up, but it didn't feel near as fragile as the new unibody one does. I threw the dice and ended up ordering the iCarbons yesterday. I'll post pictures and thoughts once it comes in and I get an opportunity to apply it.

For my 15, I got an incase hardshell from Tj-Maxx for 10 bucks. Couldn't pass it up and it works for me. Yea it makes it a bit thicker, but I think it makes it more durable and tougher.

Got an Incase Hardshell for my 13 MPB. Feels great, fits snug! It's a little pricey but I've always love the quality of Incase.

i just bought the Icarbons carbon fiber wrap, i figure it will do fine for minor scratch protection and look good while doing it.

@lurrego I received the iCarbons in today and installed them tonight. I'll post some pictures and a longer review after I've had them on for about a week or so, but for right now they went on easy enough and I think they look pretty good. I was really afraid they might really make my computer look kind of silly, but in reality they seem to give it a nice, professional appearance.

Let me know if you have any questions about them or anything I should try to address in my review.

^ cant wait for your review! make sure to mention if there is any instance of heat retention with it on, as that is one of the things I have yet to read about with the icarbons

@lurrego I checked with the site moderators and they requested I not post a full-fledged review; however, they siad aI could answer any questions someone had about the iCarbons.

In the couple of weeks I've had them, they have been great and I've had a bunch of complements on them. I've not noticed any difference in operating temperature or fan speed with the on. I've done a small bit of editing in FCE and quite a bit of video conversion with MPEG StreamClip and cranked up the CPU usage and internal temp to just over 200 degrees F, but just as soon as the the processing slowed down, so did the temperature. If the iCrabons are having any effect on heat dissipation or retention, I sure can't tell.

I hope that helps!

I bought the speck seethru satin cover for my 13inch MBP. I'm pretty pleased with the case itself, I used to have it on full time but now I just throw it on before I travel somewhere. It's just unnecessary having it on when it's just sitting on my desk as it does add a considerable amount of bulk.

My advice to you would be to buy a good quality, tight laptop sleeve and just leave your laptop bare when you're actually using it. One thing to look for with a sleeve is how it protects your mac on the inside from it's zipper. I think the incase sleeves are pretty well the best you will find. A lot of people baby their macs with clear covers and palm guards and keyboard guards and track pad guards and all that nonsense, those aren't worth it, just enjoy the frigin thing and don't be stupid with it. Why anyone would buy a palm guard to go over aluminum blows my mind anyway, it's not like aluminum is going to discolor and how the hell are ya going to scratch it there? Its a computer not a small child. However a sleeve is definitely necessary if you plan to put it in a bag or back pack.
