For what it's worth, I decided to go ahead and get the monitor. According to Dell it just shipped out so I should hopefully have it late next week. If anyone is interested, I can post a review once I receive it.

Same here. Shipped last night (got the email this morning). I'll add my thoughts too.

I have this monitor and I can confirm that the resolution is supported WITHOUT the dual link adapter. I have a mini displayport to DVI adapter and I have the full resolution. For the money, this monitor is phenomenal. The pixel density is fantastic and it allows you to cram a lot of stuff onto your desktop at one time.

I received the monitor yesterday and had it up and running in about 5 minutes. It was a bit of a pain in the butt to get out of the box. I just disconnected the existing external monitor from my iMac and used the existing power cord and DVI cable in to the new monitor. It came up at full resolution using the single-link DVI cable. The colors aren't nearly as deep as the iMac, but maybe with some playing I can improve on the "out of the box" settings. I also noticed that the viewing angles from the sides are fine, but the screen really washes out if you move up or down. I also had some issues when I tilted the screen up too far. The power would go off or the video signal would drop. I need to make sure the cables in the back are tight.

I wateched a couple of hours of DVDs last night and the quality was fine. The ACD would have been nicers, but I'm happy with this monitor and the fact it's $400 cheaper (1/3 the price of ACD).

Haha. Yeah that box! I guess they want you to work for the money you saved. I don't have a miniport adapter yet so I haven't been able to hook it up. I did unbox last night to make sure everything was there and nothing was visibly broken. It's a nice looking monitor all told. But getting it back in the box was impossible so it's sitting on my desk right now with my imac discussing life in China no doubt.

Well, I had some difficulty getting hold of the miniport adapter so I haven't been able to set this up until tonight. Right now I have a horrible sinking feeling that I'd bought absolutely the wrong monitor. I actually can't think of anything good to say about it. Colors are oversaturated and/ or washed out depending on where you look. Print is blurry and I can't seem to improve it with the sharpness setting. I hope there is a way of turning off that annoying beeping on the monitor setting menu! Overall, I would not recommend this monitor.

Edit: So I've calibrated the monitor and done what I can. Images actually look fine on this monitor. I played bits of a few DVDs and the picture actually looks pretty good. However, text looks absolutely atrocious - unusable for me. I'm sending this back or selling and probably getting a refurb 23" ACD.

Just as an update, I called Dell and told them that I find the monitor to be unusable and basically arranged to swap this monitor for a u2410 (plus cash of course). I am aware of some of the issues with the u2410, but I don't think anything could be as bad as this monitor.

Last post on this issue. Dell has really impressed me through this. Although it took giving 4 different representatives the same information before I actually got to someone who could deal with my issue, the woman I spoke to initially offered me some money to keep the SP2309. I couldn't accept that, obviously, but she overnighted the u2410, it's already here and the 2309 has been shipped back. That was easy!

Now, the purpose of writing this is to say that the u2410 is a fantastic monitor. Fairly good color (I haven't really tested it yet), excellent text reproduction, very bright and, my absolute favorite feature that, in my opinion makes it better than the 24" apple offering, it's matte. I have noticed the occasional magenta tint, but it seems to be something that is not constant. It tends to appear just after waking and not for very long. I would recommend the u2410, especially for students and business people who will need to monitor for basic word processing. I know it's 300 more than the 2309, but what good is a monitor that can't produce non-headache-inducing text?
