English lessons aside, I can recommend the Tunewear Eggshell as an excellent, minimalist rear cover fully compatible with the smart cover. I have tested the Belkin and Incipio equivalents and the Tunewear outerforms both in terms of feel and preservation of the original form factor.

Saying it comes off easily IS subjective. Describing how and when it comes off explains what YOU think is 'comes off easily'. It's up to the reader to determine if it qualifies as 'easily'. Clearly schools are not teaching English like they used to.

Really, you need to get a freaking life! It comes off easy and I explained exactly how. You can argue with someone else about rather that is subjective or not. Seems you got plenty of time to waste, but it won't be with me.

What do you guys think of the Macally Smart Mate?
I can't decide between that one and the Incipio Smart Feather.
Which is better do you think?

Sorry for my bad English ;)

The one thing I did not like about the incipio smart feather is that you couldn't take your smart cover off without removing the case. I prefer the Belkin Snapshield over it.

And that's the reason a lot of us like it.

I went back to Best Buy, returned it and got another Belkin Snap Shield. I told them if I can try it out on the spot and they opened it for me. I think the one I returned had something wrong with it. This one is perfectly fine.

:)

It says it's made for iPad 3rd gen and it snaps on fine. :D

Glad you found one that works. Mine fit perfectly when I clicked it in. No gaps, no weirdness.

I have seen almost no comments on the zerochroma case. Its pretty cool.

I just checked this out...wow...does it work as described? Or does it simply 'accomplish a lot, un practically? A lot of the more innovative designs fall into the latter.

I just received a back cover I bought on eBay. It was $9.99 with free shipping. It's smoke color plastic and works well with the Smart Cover. I also bought that on eBay for $13.99. That's what I keep on my iPad around the house. If I want to take it somewhere I have a nice heavy leather case that folds into two or three different positions. That was $17.99 on eBay with free shipping. The new back cover looks great and pops on and off easily and certainly protects the back from scratches. Oh, and it comes in several colors including clear, black, white and purple.

Nice find and nice touch for the maker to throw in the little edge protector. But this one doesn't lock the Smart Cover, correct?

Correct and I prefer to have the flexibility to take the cover in and out without removing the back case

Best protection with back case

Thanks for the great thread here. What I'm wondering is what case has the best protection against the dreaded drop and still preserves the functionality of the smart cover. The incipio smart cover looks good but has little slits and not much corner protection. The belkin is super minimal with no protection to the front.

My sister has this one and likes it. I should be able to see that in a week. Also, ...I'm not finding zum back case for iPad 3, that's what I need.

Also found this...

With smart cover "anchor". Not sure if this is a good thing...the number of back cases is simply nuts! I do like how the box wave model has some protection to the front display by how it overlaps a bit around the edges.. Any thoughts on this?

I think the first gen of the Belkin Snap Shields for iPad 3 must have been re-packaged iPad 2 cases if they were fitting that badly and cracking. As I said earlier in this thread, I intentionally bought a SnapShield for iPad 2 to go on my iPad 3 simply because I couldn't find anything else good that would come in in time for me to travel around with my new iPad right away. It fit really nicely and I did not feel like I had to force it on to the iPad at all.

However, when we were on vacation a couple of weeks later, I did notice that there was a lot of give/movement between the case and the back of the iPad. I didn't fit quite right. And obviously, the taper on the back didn't quite match. I took it off a few days after we got home to clean some lint off of the back, and the corner completely snapped off. My own fault for buying the wrong model, I guess. I wasn't mad--I made my own bed on that one.

However, this new one I have is designed for iPad 3. It went on perfectly, there is no give on the back, and you can tell there is a difference on the taper shape on the back. In general, I really like Belkin stuff. It looks nice and has never let me down. The SnapShield isn't going to protect you from drops, but it sure will allow you to have peace of mind about sliding the iPad across the table without scratching up the back.

I have the Snap Shield Secure on my iPad 3 and when I compared it with the basic Snap Sheild the plastic seemed to be of better quality on the Secure version and not as flimsy.
