Well you say you want something that can be used at home. Both of these are superior products from my own experience. People have recommended the MX revolution here, its the same one, but bluetooth. No need for a USB receiver for the wireless connection.
I would first decide if you want it to be wired or wireless, then go from there. For me in school, I would want something I can grab and go, not having to unplug items.
Logitech diNovo for Mac and Logitech MX Revolution... unbeatable combo...
Don't spend more than $10 on a mouse. I own this product and enjoy using it.
You fail to mention the Das Keyboard (uses Cherry keyswitches, optional über cool blank keys for touch-typing training and elitists), the current iteration of the Model M, and even this little gem from ABS.
Though, they all take up space, are kind of expensive, and don't look particularly good sitting next to anything (recent) by Apple. But I'd definitely use one of them for my future (PC) gaming rig. They last forever. And ever. And ever... (and the Model M can function as a handy bludgeoning weapon for self defense, all 15 lbs of itit ways more than your notebook!)
