The character development is nil. The writers seem to be pandering to an emotionally immature audience. Not my thing at all.

After watching 7 episodes of the first season, I have decided to not continue watching it - mainly due to the reasons you mentioned above.

Nobody else watches Lie To Me? It's on Wednesdays on Fox. I really like it. Very interesting stuff, although I'm not sure how exaggerated it is.

I'd say House, Bones, 24, SVU and Lost

for lost you need to start from the beginning, ya cant just jump into it

I may be a little late to the game, but as a television junkie, I think it's my duty to make a few recommendations. Battlestar Galactica would be near the top of this list, but it looks as though you're already enjoying it, which is fantastic. Personally, I'm going through withdrawal (the series finale recently aired).

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
My personal favourite. It works on just about every level. It's great if you just want to be entertained, but it has enough meat to it, that you can watch it for academic/intellectual purposes, as well. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the first season and a half of the series. They're mostly solid episodes, but I don't think they really represent what the series is. I'd say the series defines itself around episode 13 of the second season.

Friday Night Lights
I had no idea that this show would be so very good. I'm not a fan of football, but it's fascinating to see how much passion the characters in this show have for the sport. It quite honestly defines their life. This is a very realistic, almost voyeuristic show and I'd say it's probably the best thing on television right now.

The West Wing
Unfortunately, this show was only able to keep its quality up for the first four of its seven seasons. But those four seasons are fantastic television. Much like Battlestar Galactica, there is a very cinematic quality to this series, accomplished by stellar writing, directing, and acting.

Six Feet Under
This is a show that I didn't realize would be so emotionally involving. Be prepared to be addicted to it - once I started, I quite literally couldn't stop. I finished the entire series (five, 12-episode seasons) in under one week.

Firefly
This is a series that was cancelled about eight seasons early. I wouldn't necessarily describe it as science fiction (it's more of a western drama), but it is set in space. In fact, the special effects were done by the same people who went on to do Battlestar Galactica, so you'll notice the same aesthetic. Though you will almost certainly be devastated, when you realize there are no more episodes beyond the 13th, there is a feature film continuation called Serenity.

Veronica Mars
This is a really well-written, fun series that I highly recommend. The first two seasons have their own season-long mysteries that are very, very engaging and Kristen Bell is fantastic as the title character.

Strangers With Candy
A wonderful, highly offensive piece of comedy starring Amy Sedaris, Paul Dinello, and Stephen Colbert. I'm not even sure how to describe it.

Shows that I'm currently watching on televison (some are on break):
Dollhouse
30 Rock
House, M.D.
Chuck
Friday Night Lights
Dexter
United States of Tara
Weeds
Family Guy

Thank you very much - I greatly appreciate the time you took to write all of that. I am currently watching Season 4 Episode 16 of BSG - so I'm pretty near the end. I hear there is a new show called "Caprica", and a movie called "The Plan" currently in production. I can't wait!

Caprica Six - wow! :D.

My aunt is a pretty big fan of Veronica Mars and Buffy... I watched the first season of Angel a while back. I don't think Buffy is my kinda thing. Veronica Mars I will look into - I understand it has been cancelled?

Six Feet Under is something that does not appeal to me - but due to your description, I'll watch the first couple of episodes and give it a shot.

The West Wing (political drama's) do not appeal to me what-so-ever!

I watched the first episode of Firefly a very long time ago and I remember not being too impressed. I am not a fan of Nathan Fillion. I will give it another go though.

I know I seem very narrowminded, but I'm just so fussy when it comes to TV!

I'm still looking for a comedy program to fill the void of watching too much Frasier (perhaps the best comedy of all time?) and Will and Grace / Friends. As I previously mentioned, I feel Two and a Half Men is as shallow as [insert simile]!

Oh I forgot to mention, I'm not a fan of British TV :p, despite being from the UK.

Hmn, based on your current slate of shows I would highly recommend checking into these below. Most you can catch on sale for Blu-ray or DVD @ Amazon

Alias [JJ Abrams storytelling in his prime IMO]
Smallville [supes, nuff said]
True Blood [just a fun show]
The 4400 [Heroes before Heroes]
Friday Night Lights [great drama and not as much football as you think]
Birds of Prey [only one season tho but decent]
Sanctuary [just really got into this one and its good]
X-Files [since you dig Fringe]

Yikes I watch a ton of TV!!

....shout out!! lol
Yea I wish more people watched this show...I've lived and breathed TX HS football most of my life and this show is pretty much as real as it gets. Oh and that chic that plays Tyra is YUM!! :p

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia... some of the jokes on that show are just wrong but you find yourself laughing anyway.. Do check it out

Okay, so I've watched all of Battlestar Galactica (as previously stated). A wonderful show that I probably would not have watched if it wasn't recommended so much in this thread.

I watched the first 20 minutes of the Gossip Girl pilot. Not my kinda thing.

I watched the pilot for The Mentalist. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it... so I might watch another episode.

I love The King of Queens! I have nearly finished Season 1. The music is kinda annoying and repetitive, but I'm sure it'll improve!

I also have the first episodes of Six Feet Under, Firefly, Veronica Mars and Dexter at hand to watch.

another vote for 24, although u might have to play catch up.
House, Monk, burn notice, law and order SVU
anything on Discovery channel- myth busters, build it bigger etc

Those are some of my favorites.

Arrested Development was one of the most underrated comedies of recent years.

Peep Show is probably the best comedy running at the moment.

The Wire is a mind bendingly brilliant drama.

I'll second Rescue Me on FX. Genius writing and one of those shows where you are constantly saying to yourself "I can't believe they went there..." It truly does a great job of capturing real life drama situations with crazy and realistic humor. In fact, last week my wife surprised me with tickets to see Dennis Leary and the Rescue Me tour live. Several of the guys from the show do stand up and they raise money for Leary's fire fighter charity fund. It was an awesome show/concert! If you decide to watch it start with season one and keep in mind it's definitely rated R in TV terms for content and language. I think you'll like it.
