while I don't think that there is any real tangible cap on data use for unlimited plans, I still try to keep it less than 5 GB a month so I don't feel bad about tethering for free on occasion.

AT&T does have a 5GB soft cap for DataConnect plans. Maybe that is where people are getting the 5GB number

"If you are on a data plan that does not include a monthly MB/GB allowance and additional data usage rates, you agree that AT&T has the right to impose additional charges if you use more than 5 GB in a month; provided that, prior to the imposition of any additional charges, AT&T shall provide you with notice and you shall have the right to terminate your Service."

Also found it here.....

"DataPlus/DataPro Plans with Tethering: DataPlus/DataPro plans with Tethering may ONLY be used with AT&T-certified RIM BlackBerry devices and smartphones for the following purposes: (i) Internet browsing; (ii) email; and (iii) intranet access (including access to corporate intranets, email, and individual productivity applications like customer relationship management, sales force, and field service automation). DataPlus/DataPro plans with Tethering may be used to tether such smartphone and BlackBerry devices to a Personal Computer. If you are on a data plan that does not include a monthly megabyte allowance and additional data usage rates, the parties agree that AT&T has the right to impose additional charges if you use more than 5 GB in a month. Prior to the imposition of any additional charges, AT&T shall provide you with notice and you shall have the right to terminate your service."

Haha, nice. Well, there is still the possibility that there IS the Data cap policy, however, AT&T is just really lax about enforcing it, in which case, for all intents and purposes, there is no data cap if they won't enforce it.
Those charts are what my data charts looks like in terms of Megabytes!

i have averaged 500-600mb of data for a long time. but now with my iphone4 and being jb, i am already at 3gb this month. this is WITHOUT tethering too. im in love with unlimvideo! oh and i have the unlimited data plan too.

what do you think about red flags to at&t?

No. And if AT&T did try to put a "cap" on unlimited data, I'd sue them for false advertising.

Yep.
People will still believe the 5GB softcap myth.
Along with the Easter bunny and the Bigfoot :D

After seeing the other thread (& a couple charts from it), I must say, "Download your ass off". :D

youd think people would know this by now

If they searched, they would. This is at least the second thread on this topic in the last week. They could also call ATT before starting a thread.....Nah, much easier to start a thread. :D

I was wrong, I apologize. A while ago I had read the same info D1G1T4L posted and wrongly assumed it was also for the iPhone.
