Why do they always use the smaller sized iPods for the special editions?

I wanted the U2 iPod, but it was not the 60 gig.

I would like a red iPod, but want the 8 gig!

USE THE BEST MODEL... ESPECIALLY SINCE ITS GOING TO CHARITY!!!!!!!

I think its probably an issue of volume. The smaller sizes sell more. Just a guess, I don't have actual numbers.

Please read the entire post, think about it, and then respond.

I never said we should allow anyone to die - I said the exact opposite... that it is our job to be compassionate and to try and help in any way we can. My point was that there are certain aspects of the culture in African society which have bene ingrained in their way of live far longer than any western culture has even been in existence. So to think we can change that with any amount of money or education is naive.

We can and should try to save lives, and that is always a good thing. The African people are human beings, no better or worse than Americans or Brits or any other culture, color, or country. But at the end of the day, it comes down to the age-old question of whether it's our job, responsibility, or even our right to impose our culture and belief system on another. I'm merely saying that these people have chosen to develop their culture in a certain way, and perhaps they need something other than our system of education to change that. They need time... and unfortunately with that time will come deaths. I would never say or imply that innocent people should die; I merely am saying that perhaps our efforts are misguided, and that these people have something going on that's far deeper than can be fixed with education or funding. Maybe they need a long period of time where they evolve at their own pace into what their culture deems an appropriate solution.

The problem that people are having with your line of thinking is that it was used in the mid to late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to essentially justify the "superiority" of Europe and Europeans over the rest of the world. It was called Social Darwinism...

A variation of your argument was also used to justify African slavery, as well as the sterilization of Jewish people in 1930s Germany. It was, and still is, a very dangerous line of thinking, so I would not be surprised by the reaction that you are receiving.

Apparently Sting is to be involved in the launch of the brown Zune. 5% will go to fight diarrhoea in Africa.

;)

(PS don't flame me. Diarrhoea, unlike the brown zune, is not a laughing matter.)

I thought "African Diarrhoea" was the technical name of the Zune's brown colour. You wait and see, next year we'll get a new colour from MS for the Zune - "Delhi Belly Explosion" a sort of greenish-brownish-orange...

Ah dysentery... it's funny on so many levels. ;)

I second this prediction

I don't really feel like reading the article from the Chicago Tribune again, but I believe (though, due to my lack of reading it again, I may be creating a major faux-pas) that it said that she bought ten of the red iPods... so unless she only has 10 guests, I'm doubting that EVERYONE will get one; however, I do agree that there will be some sort of giveaway.

Cheers

This maaay be a stupid question, but does anyone know if these Nano's are going to be sold indefinitely, or will they be a limited product? I'm thinking more along the lines of indefinitely, but I'm not really sure.

Who cares what color an iPod is. Shouldn't really matter. Color does not affect funtionality. What matters is what is on the inside.
Yeah, where are all the camo colored MacBook Pro's and magenta Mac Pro towers huh? Come on Apple! :p

About the Global Fund

Some strange arguments come up whenever this Red business is mentioned. Follow the link for information on what this is really about.

http://www.theglobalfund.org/en/

They act as a clearing house, kind of like the United Way in the US. Programs are run by other groups.

Most of the money is earmarked for tuberculosis and malaria, less than half is spent on HIV-related programs.

Spending is not restricted to women and children. Programs are evaluated for their ability to work against discriminatory effects, and in many parts of the world that will mean that men need less help.

This is not only for some countries in Africa. Funds are sent to all but the richest parts of the world.

i cant possibly phantom why ANYBODY would possible rate this negative. Its a new iPod (in my favorite color) thats the same price and has the same specs as the original, and money goes towards AIDS. :) If you dont like the color dont get it. If you think more money should go toward AIDS then ten dollars, the do something about it and donate money out of your own pocket.
That is all.

Dang!

Dang they look good! I think the red is going to be a great hit especially in the high school crowd. Now if only I could justify one of these :)

well here's the kicker for the fools who fall for these gimmicks.
you can donate directly and it's a tax write off as a charitable contribution.
or, you can buy the same boring lollipop, in 10 different colors, and see this 5% go towards the charity which apple will gladly pony up as it will benefit them after their returns and reports are done.

so i gotta ask, why bother justifying your purchase as "good will"?
why not just call a spade a spade and say...durr durr durrr?
