The main reason here is to get more cash.
I find it odd that you buy a camera without a LCD on the back, it's optional, wtf....

the package includes an lcd. it's not included in the camera per se, because you could use an oled viewfinder as well. your choice - but as the raven is the entry level RED, thy probably decided to go with the - cheaper - lcd in this case, to give you a starting point.

on a side note - i wonder if they continue selling these cameras when RED starts selling their phones.

So have I, I color for a living, but my MacPro was purchased in 2010 and I use a CUBIX.
Me too. Be working with RED for years. Guess Apple want to make peace with RED before they bring out their new smart phone... :)
[doublepost=1501621355][/doublepost]I don't think it's gonna make much difference though; most professional cinematographers I know have already moved onto the Dragon and Weapon kits. Not many people shoot 4K these days, it's all 6K and higher.

Aside from RAW the Raven also shoots ProRes...took Red long enough to finally pony up and offer that choice.

Red is probably the most "un-Apple" company out there. Arri is much more Apple oriented (they even crafted the interface of the Alexa off the OG iPod), but they dont make consumer/pro-sumer equipment.

LOL just watched a video on youtube last week about people having issues editing 8K RED footage with a 6950X. Pretty sure all Apple computers will struggle at this.

But now even ARRI is pushing SMPTE MXF over ProRes, for a lot of reasons. Their is still a lot of frustration in the Post Community over ProRes still being a standard format in a lot of workflows. I would love the day ProRes is gone. I love Apple but they built something, supported it for a while, then walked away. They left everyone high and dry. Apple abandoned High End Post Production, so ProRes should be abandoned as well.

BTW the losses MXF Arri 4k ACES color with MXF wrapper is the best digital acquisition footage I have ever seen. After seeing this footage you won't care if Apple Kills ProRes.

RED cameras seem to be every You Tubers wet dream, I struggle to see why those that have them use them for You Tube videos, thousands of pounds or dollars worth of equipment just so Google and the internet can compress the video they capture.....

That’s actually a pretty good deal, red cameras are very expensive. Good value for what you get. I can see amateur filmmakers buying these.

This is what some "Youtubers" use for filming there work development projects. Expensive, but produces quality results.

Well not only YouTube, but big Hollywood movies are shot on red too. But those are crazy expensive red cameras, tens of thousands of dollars

Interesting. Didn't know these camera's were issues in filming large scale movies. I imagine for these types of price points, you would expect results.
