I ditched my Reddit account the end of last year but Apollo was my Reddit app. Browsing the site is awful on other apps and the official app/website. If i'm on desktop I always go to old.reddit.com.

Might redownload Apollo and check the update out but not signing back up.

never ceases to amaze me how one man can build a better app than a corporate. Just shows that its the right vision not the money that creates a better UX/software.

I have a feeling Reddit will soon axe Apollo as they do not generate money from it, and Apollo users are significant chunk of Reddit users.

Great news! Apollo is a much better Reddit experience than the actual Reddit app. A really excellent app from a former Apple employee (IIRC), it very much shows itself to be a labor of love (I mean, sure, he charges for it, but he's clearly writing it because he loves good code and good UX, rather than it being just something to make money).

idk if he changed this, but the app is free only some perks are paid for. Its almost donation-ware and I am glad this business model is working for him and us.

I dont use any of the "pro" features on Apollo, but I bought it anyway to support the dev. It is just such a better experience than reddit's own app or even their SLOWWWWWW desktop experience.

Love Apollo

I happily pay the subscription as totally worth it. Christian does an amazing job keeping that app fresh

Nevertheless, the point stands that he charges money for the app, in that you don't get all the features for free (FWIW, when I first got it, I think there was an upfront charge - it's been long enough I don't really remember - either way, I'm more than happy to have paid for the app). What I was trying to say (I thought my meaning was clear) is that his ceaseless dedication to this project, his attention to detail, and the way he engages with users (primarily on reddit) make it pretty clear he isn't writing this app merely to get a paycheck, he's doing it because he thoroughly enjoys it. And that kind of software is usually the best software.

I wish there were more third party app versions of popular services.

I use Tweetbot for browsing twitter, Apollo for reddit, Tapatalk (for Macrumours), Reeder (for RSS) and sadly, protube (youtube app) and fastfeed (perhaps the only decent third party ipad app for Instagram) got neutered by the respective companies. ?
