Maybe Reddit should spend money modernizing their 2003 website. I basically stopped visiting Reddit years ago. Just can't deal with the antique GUI.
Did you miss New Reddit, and New New Reddit? And also how everyone prefers Old Reddit to either of them?

Don't fix what isn't broken; every time Reddit "modernizes" something, it gets worse.

Yeah but it's his own personal private platform. Nobody has to play with him. They could just take their ball and go home.

Huffman is monetizing useful, relevant content from literally a decade ago that people provided for free for no personal gain.

Both are bad. Which is worse?
Um Musk by far because he has allowed literal Nazi propaganda to explode on Twitter, also vile racist/homophobic/misogynist/antisemitic content. Is this supposed to be a serious question???

He allowed Nick Fuentes back on, who now gets to spread Holocaust denialism to a larger audience. And now Elon is laughably suing advertisers because they shockingly don't want their ads next to swastikas (as you said they took their ball and went home and now Elon is suing them for it and also went to Republicans in congress to whine about his tanking advertising revenue).

Not to mention Elon's recent history of posting extremely antisemitic and hateful stuff and signal boosting antisemitic content.

Huffman is profiteering which sucks but that's just a byproduct of capitalism. Elon is actively damaging society by platforming literal Nazism. Comparing THAT to training AI on Reddit is insane.

Good riddance Reddit. Centralizing “forums” seemed like a great idea - but all the centralized social media platforms have turned out to be run by evil people squeezing every possible penny they can out of their users.

I quit during the Apollo debacle, back to forums like MR!

There are a lot of spammers and the spammy content they create, and nothing repels that better than a paywall.

Paywall? really!!???. Reddit would be getting tens and tens of millions of $$$ from both Google and Microsoft to allow their AI bots to use Reddit's vast source of data, data that has been provided freely by it's users who's Reddit owners now tend to make millions of $$$ for themselves when those who created the data in the first place, the users, will get nothing.

Just goes to show how Reddit's owners screw over it's users, they rake in millions of $$$ from Google and Microsoft and yet planning to install paywalled sections within subreddits. Way to go on how to royally screw over your users Reddit.

I blame Elon for enabling this kind of greedy behaviours of ceo's. He's such a small person that worships to be richer and eventually tries to be the shadow of bigger greedy people. Doing the exact same steps what twitter is doing. Restricting the API, bringing back the subs etc. I bet that he has a very buddy buddy relationship with elon and doing all those to suck up on him.

Late stage capitalism ******tification has reached the last part of the Web2 internet with live humans : Reddit.
The rest having been swallowed by the SEO/Google/AI hallucinatory fever dream.
The future for actual humans ?
* private servers/chat apps : discord, sessions Kik etc
* old school forums (like this one)
* self hosted decentralized servers linked by the fediverse

nb : i'm not rooting fo the sad joke by crypto bros and dead eyed VC partners that is Web3
nb2 : the "humans" on things like X don't count. MAGAfied drones are just extensions of the Matrix (which amusingly they believe they freed themselves from).

While it's a d**k move and will quite likely plunge Reddit into irrelevance, the data they Reddit does have is extremely valuable for training AI models.

Quora has a similar trove of quality content for Ai, but afaik they're only using it build their own AI model (poe) rather than selling it to the highest bidder

Reddit is the most heavily censored discussion platform of all. It should be shut down for good. I personally have blocked it via a firewall, so that I do not access it accidentally. Reddit used to be a place for free speech, but these days it is pretty impossible to post something that is not in line with the narrative of the admins of a subreddit or the platform in general.

Reddit also shows you stuff in your feed that you did not subscribe to. That can lead to funny problems. I saw the question "What do you put on your pizza?" in my feed. So I responded honestly that tuna and salmon are my favourite pizza toppings. A while later I got the message that I was permanently banned from the vegan subreddit for trolling :). I never read the name of a subreddit. I just answer the a question and it seems that my answer offended some people in the subreddit and I got banned. That's the problem with most subreddits. They are just echo chambers and echo chambers stop the honest exchange of opinions.

Why would you pay for a subreddit???

if you enjoy chatting with low rate Ai bots and shills you should def pump your money into this.

Calling hiding something behind a paywall „unlocking“ seems like a strange choice of words.
