Federated stuff will never succeed on the mass market. People really need to understand that.
The mods of r/Apple are weak. There is no way Reddit can replace the entire site’s mod force in any reasonable time frame and Reddit knows it. This was the most predictable threat they could have made and yet apparently none of the mod teams predicted it. Even if Reddit did delete all of the blackout mods it would be a near fatal blow to the site. Would cause months of Reddit having to step in on hastily appointed power tripping replacement mods.Already the community is giving in. This whole protest will be forgotten very quickly. Talking about powerless Users.
And after reading the Verge comment, the blackout will now be really be indefinite as more users are irate at the CEO’s comment. Heck, would not be surprised if the subreddit just shut down and moved to Lemmy or other platform. As a result, some subreddits such as r/Apple made the decision to continue the blackout indefinitely, which means millions of Reddit users no longer have access to those communities. It seems Reddit plans to forcibly end further blackouts by removing entire moderation teams that are participating
At this point, he’ll need to be forced out via hostile takeover. Only choice left.At this point, Reddit can only be salvaged if Steve Huffman steps down
It doesn't take any work at all, if you don't mind a subreddit filled with posts about apple pies. Or, for that matter, Viagra ads.How much creativity and work does it take to create a Apple subreddit called 'r/apple'?
I, too, could substantially improve my cash flow by simply choosing not to pay my rent and other bills.Hilarious. They're likely cash flow positive by now.
But I'll check back with you in a year.
Exactly. The people pretending that being a mod is just sitting at your keyboard lording over your subjects are clueless. For big communities it takes a lot of work to keep things civil but active, filter out spam, bots, trolls, etc, enforce rules, keep things on topic, respond to community feedback, etc.It doesn't take any work at all, if you don't mind a subreddit filled with posts about apple pies. Or, for that matter, Viagra ads.
On the other hand, if you want someone to monitor the content to delete the off-topic posts and spam, then you'll need a mod or three. Funny how everyone seems to assume that someone else will do this job for them. For free.
Bye bye mods holding subs hostage.
r/apple will be seeing some new mods shortly along with all the other ones.
What are you supposed to use to replace Reddit? Surely not Mastodon...?![]()

If there's one thing reddit mods and supermods won't stand for it's being told that they don't hold ultimate cosmic power. Reddit has gotten far by giving subreddits the illusion that they own themselves but the veil has been dropped now.
Kbin.social :: Reddit as Mastodon :: TwitterWhat are you supposed to use to replace Reddit? Surely not Mastodon...?
Because without mods each sub becomes a mini 4chan.Okay, regardless..Reddit has the complete control to just re-open them, regardless. Why even send that comms. Just re-open and edit control so that they cant shut them at will.
My previous post was flagged (because I'm a newbie posting links?), but anyway kbin.social is to reddit as mastodon is to twitter. What are you supposed to use to replace Reddit? Surely not Mastodon...?
I went to the link and the site is dead. Either a good or a bad sign, no in between. 🤣My previous post was flagged (because I'm a newbie posting links?), but anyway kbin.social is to reddit as mastodon is to twitter.
They already have "magazines" (aka subreddits) named ELI5, dataisbeautiful, IAMA, AITA, etc waiting for content.
It always been like this in the US, just presented in a "friendly" package.Remove people that disagree with your authority. Is Reddit like, the internet North Korea? Is the CEO going to send them to a labor camp while he is it at?
It's been growing exponentially, and a few minutes ago it was not responding to me either. But now it's back.I went to the link and the site is dead. Either a good or a bad sign, no in between. 🤣
Uh…no. I don’t care about third party apps and reddit is fine for what i need it for. If people care that much, great. Stop using it. Just like the Netflix boycott, i doubt it’ll amount to anything. Most people grandstanding that theyre not using reddit anymore? Most likely will be using reddit tomorrow anyway. This is some BLM black box on instagram crap
It came back. I made an account. Sick of everything being a pump and dump. (Even kitchen appliances companies are pump and dumps now...) Hopefully this resists any goofy corporate schemes, but I am skeptical even though it would apparently be difficult. It's been growing exponentially, and a few minutes ago it was not responding to me either. But now it's back.
Reddit was down for three hours this week ...
lemmy and kbin exist! anyways, i was replying to someone who stated that federated stuff wouldn’t take off — but it literally has. it’s being proven right now that decentralized, federated communities are strong enough to a) attract users, and b) be sustainable — all without corporate marketing/funding. federated stuff is super dope, and i hope you can check it out if you haven’t yet! What are you supposed to use to replace Reddit? Surely not Mastodon...?
