Am I really the only person in the world who actually likes the Touch Bar?

Much like the idea of the iPhone replacing physical buttons depending on app context - it's actually useful when compared to a row of utterly useless buttons marked "F". I don't understand the hatred, or why Apple are caving
People like the function keys because of the immediate access to essential controls (volume, brightness etc) rather than the actual archaic F functions. Those controls are much easier to use via keys than the TB.

and because you can use them without moving your eyes from the screen.

what if MagSafe is on the brick side and not on the Mac side, you can still make them all USBc and not have wasted ports.
Either that or it needs to be a USB-C to magsafe connector so we don't have to buy yet another set of power supplies for the machines.

I pretty much expect the following releasing:
1. iPad Pro with mini led and m1x chip (march event)
2. Macbook Pros 14" & 16" with m1x chip (wwdc event)
3. iPhone 13's lineup (september event)
4. iMac 23-24" & 30-32" with m1x chip (november event)

If we don't see new iPad introduced early this year this could be indicative of pushed back releases for other devices, who knows..

That's how the Touchbar works, it displays the quick-access-row and then displays the function-key-row when you hold down the fn key. It also has the benefit of customizable quick-access-buttons instead of being stuck with the keys Apple decided you need.

Because Touch Bar is terrible. Anyone who knows how to type is looking at the screen, not the keyboard. But it is impossible to use the Touch Bar without looking at it. And since no pressure is required to press the “keys” on the Touch Bar, high speed typists are constantly accidentally triggering touchbar functions by merely brushing it with stray fingers. So it actually makes the computer *worse* for a lot of people - we can’t even pretend the touchbar doesn’t exist.
You don’t have to “pretend,” there are about a half dozen ways to disable Touch Bar“ from partially to totally. Do a search.

You have to be careful to not bend cables too tightly. Causes metal fatigue. I've never worn out a Mac charger cable, going as far back as original 2006 white MacBook and a bunch of devices in between. I have worn out lightning cables.
I know what you’re saying. But even with careful use even during storage, they don’t last compared to other more robust cables. The white cabling is way too gentle for something likely to be moved around often as part of a mobile device. Plus I had used a braided protective sheath for the length of the cable which prevents tangling and provides some degree of protection.

The iPad Pro will probably have an A14X. The iPad has no real need for 4 Firestorm cores, let alone 6 or 8.

I like the Touch Bar *idea*, but I dont like its trade offs.

If, Touch Bar were 100% realible, and doesn't crash once or twice every year.

It needs to be responsive, and doesn't offer varying responsiveness in different settings, known as Jank in software development specially in the web domains.

It could have been better if they offer some form of responsiveness that felt like a click. Of course the trade off is yet another motor and space requirement.

It sort of like Touch Bar as an idea was never published. And Apple doesn't think it needs polishing either which is strange. And I sometimes wonder if we could have Touch Bar without taking away our F Keys. I do think Escape key and power button are good compromise. But the pendulum in US and Media always sway from one extreme to another with no middle ground.

I was hoping for an Intel version... you know... something to keep me warm next winter 🤣
I agree. The M1 is fast and great if you are a developer in the IOS world but for the rest of us running other OS's and working with VMs, I really want Intel. I have no doubt the Apple emulation will eventually be awesome but I need to be able to run Parallels and Vmware intel out of the box without an emulation layer introducing issues. I also run clamshelled most of the time with external 4k monitors so the whole design thing is irrelevant to me until I have to go onsite. I still love my 2013 model though I want to replace it with a new Intel one. I'd like a 2021 intel one to replace it with.

I haven't seen a full SD card in ages, so why return to such a port and be left with an adapter protruding out of the side. Perhaps a microSD port, so that the card is flush with the laptop's side, which can be ejected through the OS or slight press, would be better.

And what I wouldn't give for a single USB-A port, instead of some expensive bulky adapter.

Using 13” MacBook Pro 2016. Which of the “old ports” would I prefer to have back? Maybe only a single USB-A port.

I see the benefit of SD card slot, sure. HDMI? Not so much really. Not at all actually. Moreover, only full size HDMI can be of any real use to most -> mini/micro would be waste of space, just as a mini ethernet port.

The thing is: USB C hubs / adapters are just everywhere of all sorts now (even portable Thunderbolt 3 docs).

Call me crazy - but I’d rather see a return of a headphone jack on the iPhone, as a person who does not use wireless earphones/headphones at all since my head begin to hurt due to this very healthy convinient tech.

Meanwhile I am totally fine carying super small USB C hub together with MacBook Pro for any kind of situation.

Whatever the changes - there must be at least 1 USB 4 / thinderbolt port on each side that support charging.

Somehow I get a feeling that it is not even about “being nice and listening” on Apples side, but rather ease of implementation additional ports, instead of 4x USB 4 / Thinderbolt 3 on M1X.

Really interesting to see whats going to happen, especially since I’ve been waiting for the 14” model for a while now. So do a lot of Mac users.

Yes! you are the only person in the world that like the Touch Bar.

To me is simply as NO Touch Bar = I'll buy the MacbookPro, TouchBar = I'll buy the Macbook Air.

Excited for these changes! An obvious choice over m1 13” MacBook Pro
I think it depends on the buyer's budget. The 14" will likely be the replacement for the current 10th gen version and start close to (or over) $2,000. Load it up and you can push $3,000. So there will still be a considerable gap between the 14" m1x and the 13" M1.

I had a 16" MBP before I got my M1 Air. The Touchbar does have some usability (previews in presentations and documents) feature and some things it does better (volume and brightness slider). I miss these on my M1 Air. To me, once they gave the Touchbar a dedicated escape key it became more of an "OK, that is nice" instead of "where the heck is the escape key" frustration.

Yep. Wrapping the cable around the hooks is a good way to break the power cable where it goes into the charger on those older Macs. Apple even said don't do that.

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but I find the interpretations of magsafe reverting to what it was in 2015 a bit far-fetched. I think if there is going to be magsafe, its going to be the same type that the iPhone 12 uses, allowing for macs to charge iPhones. Maybe on the back beside the trackpad. But USB-C is so ubiquitous, I just can't see them bothering to clutter up the I/O ports with a MagSafe 2 port. both for thickness reasons and aesthetic.

HDMI and USB-A fans: please hold a connector next to your MacBook Pro, and tell me if the thickness of the MacBook would support it.

No it won't.

Just buy the $1 USB-A to USB-C connector already.
You just have to look a little harder. The current MBP:s get thinner toward the left and right edges, whereas the rumored bricklike design would be based on more consistent thickness. Such design would easily fit a HDMI and/or USB-A.

You're a minority. You've had your fun and can continue to do so with your existing MacBook with the touch bar. It's long overdue that Apple removes it and finally does something for the vast majority that hates it.

Would love to know how to disable it completely on a company issued laptop where 3rd party apps can't be installed.

Thank you.
