It's expensive, and proprietary...but Apple does sell a Lightning-to-3.5mm cable that allows you to use your Airpod Max's in wired mode. Finally, I was a day-1 AirPods Max buyer and this was one of three major issues that I hoped they would address with a Gen 2.
1) USB-C, please, so I can charge it with my Mac charger
2) A case that actually protects the device, ding ding ding!
3) Audio out for when the batteries are dead!
I own this cable, but it doesn't work when the AirPods run out of battery because it's a digital portIt's expensive, and proprietary...but Apple does sell a Lightning-to-3.5mm cable that allows you to use your Airpod Max's in wired mode.
Well, they're made of extremely durable materials, the reason I dislike the case is because it provides essentially no-more protection than the AirPods offer themselves.Well I've travelled all over the globe with them since launch and they look as good as the day I bought them so the case must provide some type of protection.
Feels like an alternate reality![]()
Plus, you look really cool carrying them around in that cool case all over the globe.Well I've travelled all over the globe with them since launch and they look as good as the day I bought them so the case must provide some type of protection.

Well yeah, there is always a next version of every product in development, unless you're going out of business. As with all patents, this one could well come to nothing, but Apple may well be planning a new version of AirPods Max for the company to include features that it reportedly had to leave out because of development challenges and production issues.
It doesnt matter what Apple does, they'll always be apologists to defend them.It doesn't matter what Apple does here, people are going to complain about it.
"I hate the current design of the case, its awful."
"This new design is just a copy of other manufacturers designs (even though its what I said I wanted in a case). Where is the innovation!!"
Its a freaking headphones case. The case now is really not bad. It takes up very little space and protects the important parts of the headphones. I swear people just want a reason to complain about things.
And an off switch too !
It's an objectively bad design. I have them, and the flap on mine has degraded so that it doesn't always close completely, or often is dislodged loose in my backpack. The result is that I can never really rely on them being charged - I need to remember to charge them in advance after I go a few days without using them. I didn't need to do that with my Sony's or Sennheiser Momentums. The fact that the poorly designed case is REQUIRED to turn off the APM's is simply stupid. It doesn't matter what Apple does here, people are going to complain about it.

Exactly! As much as people filled their diapers about the original case, I never really understood why, since it protected the more cosmetically fragile parts of the headphones without adding extra size/volume. I've literally never used the cases I've received with headphones because they've been too big for my laptop bag. My NDH20s just came with a little cloth bag, which was too annoying to manage so I stopped using it, and they got a scuff on one side pretty shortly after that (only a minor irritation, since the build quality on those is insane, but still). So I actually thought the original design was pretty clever for real-world usage.Do people actually carry these around in a case? I assumed people threw them into a soft bag of some sort and then put that into their travelling bag.
The patent looks more like a travelling case that'll be so large that it won't fit into a travel bag. I can see Apple side-stepping the controversy by releasing a case that technically has a different function (hard case for travelling vs existing soft case for day-to-day)
Unfortunately you have to if you want to turn them off. Otherwise they will be dead if you let them sit a few days in your backpack without the case.Do people actually carry these around in a case? I assumed people threw them into a soft bag of some sort and then put that into their travelling bag.
