I think M1X is just a an extension of M1 and not a groundbreaking new chip. That'll be M2.

Anyhow there'll be enough work behind thermal and performance optimization for the Pro models and that's something to look for.

Will Apple announce them during WWDC next month? I need to make a purchase decision soon.

Still waiting for the 60+ core monsters to really see how well these machines do with my workloads. It’ll be fantastic to see how these scale compared to the Eypc and Xeons.

I truly doubt we will see 32 or 64 GB of RAM.

I had assumed the pros would see 2 x M1's in the machine thus doubling the capabilities in an easyish to do package for apple.

I doubt an M1 package costs apple much, hence why they put it everywhere.

2 x M1's would obliterate whatever Intel can do.

Bring it on! Will be interesting to see if the memory is embedded in the SoC package (probably) or not.

This would seem to indicate we're close to launch, so maybe the recent 27 inch iMac sales are clearing stock before the release of the new version after all.

Looks good, though not liking the idea of adding HDMI and SD card slots. I would be hesitant to buy since I want only USB-C.
Along with the MagSafe there will be a MagPlug to fill in the sockets that nobody wants to see returned. They can either match the body colour to make the sockets disappear or you can choose contrasting colours to highlight which sockets you really dislike.

What? Most of the power goes to CPU/GPU.
Thats why if you start anything demanding the battery life goes super fast.
Measuring computer at IDLE is not valid assessment

It will be amazing. These are not M1 cores. And these machines will have much bigger batteries. And only a small chunk of the power usage goes to the CPU/GPU.

I was hoping for 16 cores.
M2 or M1x only 2 more cores than the 8 in the M1?
Don't be fooled, the current M1 has 4 high-performance cores and 4 energy-efficient (slower) cores. The M1x would have 8 high-performance cores and only 2 energy-efficient cores, together with more RAM and double or triple the GPU cores.

My guess is that this would practically double the speed of the M1, this is huge.

Could be some nice gaming machines, now we'll just need developers to make more games for MacOS.
Indeed, 16 to 32 gpu cores could be a big deal, if it is linearly scalable means 40K to 80K GPU benchmarks. That might mean not much on paper but when frames per second are concerned, that gpu sometimes score up to +50% FPS higher than GPUs whose raw bench score metrics deemed them more powerful.
On that same tone, and not a fair apples to apples comparison, the Nintendo Switch has some great games and it’s about 5 to 7 times less powerful on gpu numbers than a M1... it’s like 500 GFlops, undock it and more down it goes. So a lot of games could totally make it, I think the ball is on the developers hands and apple providing the proper support.
Truly excited to see this all pan out.
