More nonsense from Bloomberg and the fake insiders. If they were gonna update the mouse they would have done so with the USB-C update.

... Why would a mouse have voice control when it’s connected to a device that will already have voice control?

So that you can still use all of the features of your computer without having to be right next to it, such as when you're presenting from the opposite end of a conference room, or using a Mini in a sight-unseen "home theater PC" configuration, installed behind a wall mounted TV.

Why would you want a scroll wheel and not a touch surface like the current iteration?

This one is arguably a Mac vs Windows issue; it is my observation that PC users typically rely upon that scroll wheel an awful lot more than Mac users, most particularly PC gamers. The touch surface may be technically superior in almost every way, but it still doesn't quite match the feel of a scroll wheel.

You might reasonably respond with, "But only almost?"... to which I say...

Please can I right-click on this one with my pointer finger still resting on the left side of the mouse?

Bingo. I have never understood why this obvious bug has persisted for so long... and it is the sole reason that I have several Apple mice sitting in a box, while proper gaming mice are connected to each of my computers, both Mac and PC.

Charge port location aside, I've always found the Mac mouse, both the current one and many previous models, to be ergonomically problematic. They all lean to far toward flat on top, leading to finger fatigue. I don't know what an optimal average curve would be best were everyone, but I think it needs quite a bit more height in the middle, and every 3rd party mouse seems to be closer to that than Apple's.

I honestly think that anyone that wants to use a mouse on a Mac should just use the Magic Trackpad instead.
Trackpads have their uses, but they're not ideal for every application. I still prefer using a mouse for certain tasks on my computer.

Many users that I help do basic computer things for don't even understand what a right click is, so I totally understand why Apple disables it by default, to avoid people having the context menu pop up all the time without them knowing why.
I work with a lot of novice computer users in both Mac and PC worlds, and I have to say that it is generally only the novice Mac users who seem to get confused by contextual menus and the idea of right-clicking. Apple's insistence on hiding the right-click under settings and within gestures and "hidden" sensors is probably a good reason for this. Contextual menus are very helpful and are generally just another menu that pops up, so I don't really understand why Apple continues to act like they are some kind of unintuitive voodoo trick that should be kept hidden from the uninitiated. It really doesn't take any amount of explanation to teach people that a different button does a different thing.

Actually, the Magic Mouse dropped support for the squeeze gesture that the Mighty Mouse had. One of my favorite features, and one of the main reasons I don't like using the Magic Mouse compared to the older Mighty Mouse. The two finger swipes to get to Mission Control on the Magic Mouse never worked as reliably or quickly as the squeeze on the Mighty Mouse.
Ahh, looks like I got a bit mixed up in Apple's naming conventions here.

That aside, hopefully it's designed in a way where you could use it wired full time if you'd like

I vastly prefer using wired peripherals at my desktop
I agree. The option to use the mouse while charging would really be nice. I have no need for a wireless keyboard, so wired is fine for me.

They are obviously holding back the obvious mouse features for the future: multitool with mini screwdriver & scissors, hot plate to keep your tea warm, milk dispenser for tea, wifi access point, and fidget spinner.
Built in laser pointer...

Maybe one day Apple might make just a really nice to hold and elegant 2-4 button mouse with a scroll wheel. But I doubt it.

5 bucks says this redesigned Magic Mouse will still have to be recharged from the bottom 😂

I have three MX Master 2s for Mac's and I love them, too! So feature rich for a moues to enable gestures and almost all the functions on trackpad!

yeah, not being a trackpad user I'm not sure what if any functions I'm missing with the mouse

Honestly, I'm having a hard time thinking of what features among "all of the features" a presenter would want to use in this scenario where voice commands would be beneficial over just using the mouse like a mouse.

Maybe voice dictation if the mouse microphone is good enough - but it would be amusingly distracting to watch a presentation where the presenter is talking into their mouse the whole time.

or using a Mini in a sight-unseen "home theater PC" configuration, installed behind a wall mounted TV.
If Apple were really doing this for HTPC purposes, they'd resurrect Front Row and create an updated remote control design instead. Integrating this into the mouse doesn't make a lot of sense.

The touch surface may be technically superior in almost every way, but it still doesn't quite match the feel of a scroll wheel.
While I don't doubt that it is a Mac vs. Windows user difference of preference, I would argue that games have very little to do with PC users preferring physical scroll wheels. As vocal as gamers are, they are still nowhere near the majority of PC users out there and they are certainly not the reason why scroll-wheels were added to mice nor are they the reason why scroll wheels are still included on mice.

The most likely reason PC users prefer scroll wheels is that scroll wheels have been included on most PC mice since the mid-90's, so that is what most PC users are used to. It may not even be a "preference" thing so much as a "that's what every mouse I've ever used does" kind of thing.

In contrast, in its entire history, Apple had only ever built one mouse which included anything that was even close to a scroll wheel (the Mighty Mouse). Mac users either had to buy a third-party mouse to get a scroll wheel or they had to learn how to work with what Apple chose to give them. There are a lot of people who just got used to the Apple way of doing things.

MX Master 2 is far from perfect in my opinion.

1) My MX Master 2S failed within 6 months and dealing with Logitech support to get it fixed almost isn't worth the effort.
2) The scroll wheel is crazy sensitive, and sometimes takes off scrolling your pages at a billion miles an hour even when you have the sensitivity turned down and the "clicky" mode on.
3) Overall the tracking feels different and slightly less natural than the Magic Mouse.
4) It takes longer to "wake up" when you haven't been using the mouse.

I do wish Apple would make a decent "pro" mouse.

I just switched from a Magic Mouse to MX Master 3S. The MX is so much more comfortable in my hand. I wouldn't say it's perfect either though. The thumb wheel is recessed, and the gesture button is in an awkward spot and a little hard to click. It's also a little big for my hand, but that's certainly going to be different for everyone.

The touch surface of the Magic Mouse is such a great feature and I miss it a lot on the MX. Swiping to go back and forward is tough to get over losing.

A mouse that blended the features of both would be wonderful.

I tried the mx master. Just for comparison. Sent it back immediately.
I like the apple mouse
