may not be related..I would like to say something about openbox items.

Bought mine 17inch 2.8 mbp a day ago and so far I had some pretty annoying things to deal with.

The laptop itself looks fine, I dont see much markings except some scratch at the bottom of the case (which I can deal with.) However, my adapter/charger wasn't working, it would recognize if it was being connected but wouldn't recharge the battery. I had to take a 2 hour trip to the store (Futureshop, open box) and was told they are out of supplies for the adapter. I was complaining for nearly an hour because I m going on a trip very very soon and I need my laptop to be available without being connected to a power source. They finally agreed to "lend" me theirs which their technician use, I just have to bring it back afterwards.

Other than that, I realized it didn't come in with snow leopard as it advertised on their website and I m pretty broke atm to spend it to upgrade the system. Also the CD driver were making some marks on my CDs and the fans are a little loud. Instead of trying to deal with them and replace stuff I think I m going to return it and buy a brand new one with some chip-in from my mom tomorrow at a Apple store.

Is this from Apple.com? At the very least, you should have called the Apple Store before you drove two hours.

Ah, now I see you got it from a different shop. So I guess that's a pretty good lesson then. Unless you know what you're doing and feel comfortable dealing with the consequences, purchase refurbished items only from Apple.com.
