Yeah, I'm "used" to a 1st gen, so the resolution shouldn't be a big deal, BUT the retina display on the 4 is sweet. Kind of makes me reconsider looking at the refurb 3 ($379).

My mom got a red poly smart CASE for her iPad 4 (fits the 2, too, methinks). Thanks for your response, btw. :)

iPad 3 refurb for $379 is the best value IMO

I agree, but I thought there were over-heating issues with the 3. Have later versions of iOS 6 fixed that?

The iPad 3 does get warmer than the iPad 2 when you have the brightness at a high level and you're playing an intensive game. Just slightly warm. All of the reports of the temp being 110F+ were due to defects. The refurb units I haven run into for the iPad 3 actually run cooler than the iPad 4 I used to have

There were defective iPad 3's, I know that but the issue was really blown way out of proportion

Cool, thanks. I'm not an intense gamer (save that for my PS3), so that shouldn't be an issue. :)

Funny... everyone said - myself included - that a $30 discount is a little pathetic (but nonetheless better than nothing IMHO)... but now the refurb Minis are sold out. Lol, somebody thought a $30 discount was enough to sway them. :D

nah - they are sold out likely due to flippers. for proof of this, go onto eBay and see what the new/sealed iPad Mini 16GB refurbs are selling for to see what the profit margin is

i am guilty of perpetuating the problem. in the weeks leading up to XMas, i bought (14) iPad 3 16GB refurbs and flipped them all on eBay for an average net profit of $48 each. i do it every year around xmas when the demand for iPads soars and people don't want to pay the full retail price.

Refurbs can be as good? i dont know but better, i think not.

Otherwise there wouldn't be anyone going for brand new anymore. For apple, at $299 is one stingy deal.

Here's what happens: Idiot walks into the Apple Store, pays for an iPad Mini, leaves the store, changes his mind, goes back and returns the iPad. Apple now has an iPad Mini that cannot legally be sold as new. So it is sold as "refurbished" with 10% rebate. That's a ten percent loss that Apple carries because they pander to idiots who can't make up their mind. How is that stingy?

Why is the person and idiot for returning an item he did not like?

Walmart is selling iPad mini 16gb brand new for $299.

Honestly. With iPad 4 being discounted the first day it was available at target ($40 gift card promo) than later a $60 gift card promo. Best buy had similar promo for iPad 4.

Now Walmart discounting iPad mini brand new. This all means iPads are quickly being saturated and Apple wants to move inventory sitting on the shelves.

Thats one possible scenario but can you confirm that all refurbished are from that??? 10% that apple carry due to idiots decision. Do you know how much profit apple made selling the mini? Together with that rediculous 5W adaptor taking 8 hours to charge from 10% to full.

yeah, and as a result resale values will take a hit on these products in a year or two from now.

it's really a non-issue with Apple refurbished iPads as you get a brand new battery, a new outer shell, and the defective (if any) parts are replaced with new parts. it's a solid state device so unless it's already broken as soon as you turn it on out of the refurb white box, it likely won't break down the road. yeah, the screen could be defective that was picked up by techs but you would likely see that.

i have a lot of experience with Apple refurb iPads and the quality of the refurbs have been actually superior to that of the new iPads. every new iPad i've purchased i've had to purchase at least twice (all screen light bleed issues, and one overheating issue. refurbs have been good from the 1st one - no light bleed, no overheating, no chips/scratches/scrapes no defects at all

Sold the Mini I owned two weeks ago. I'm surprised it is $299 at Walmart and I'm glad I did it then. I would have not gotten what I did if I waited and the person I sold it to might be ticked not waiting a little longer. :D

Yep, was just getting ready to post this... Guess the refurb argument is invalid now, huh? :D Good thing about Walmart having it for this price? INSTANT GRATIFICATION! lol

BTW, on a totally un-related note... happy! Got a new iMac at work to replace my crappy Dell. :D Ignore the funky RAM size and speed - it's an education model that came with... wait for it... TWO gigs of RAM lol. So I installed every "extra" stick I had lying around. Figure that 9GB of 1067MHz is better than 2GB of 1333MHz lol.
