Very occasional. It's not a big deal.

Occasional or not, it really depends on what games you intend to run. The whole "gaming" term is way too broad to make any recommendations whatsoever, apart from a blanket statement that true gaming is much better handled by a cheap gaming desktop or console than just about any laptop on the market(sorry if I hurt some Apple fanboys, but truly, Macs were never built with gaming in mind, even if the newer models are decently capable machines, they cannot touch what a desktop PC can do. Basically, I'm not saying macs can't game, I'm simply saying other pieces of electronics are much better tools for the job).

This is hardly a thread about this. A desktop isn't even an option for a college student.

Why do you say a desktop isn't an option? Build your own and you can get it cheaper than a laptop. Or buy an HP (or similar) for about the same as most low-end laptops.

I wouldn't really even no where to begin to build a mackintosh / own computer. And I'm not sure I want to put in the effort for something that I can't take to class and will still be as expensive as these options.

edit: even though it does sound fun and something I could do over the summer, I'd still think I need a laptop, and I didn't really like having two computers the last time I did.
