I look at it like this - it's better to have the option to use it than not.

Even if the iPhone 5 comes with LTE, that's still 7 months out. I can purchase the LTE version of the iPad now and take advantage of those speeds, and then when the new iP5 comes out tether my connection to the iPad. Or opt not to purchase an iPhone at all. (My current phone does not tether.)

$130 isn't that much when you look at the convenience of having only one device; the ability to tether your speedy connection to other devices; the higher resell price point if and when you do choose to sell the new iPad for when the newer iPad comes out next year.

Even if you never turn the service on, it's good to have it there just in case.

It is really not a matter if you have LTE in your area. It if you want cellular back up. If there is not LTE service it will do what ever GSM is available, just slower. When I purchased my 3G , I did not use it for a long time till the day came when I was in a situation where there was no WiFi and the 3G saved the day. Like others said, unless money is a huge concern, why not add it for the safety factor.

In the end everyone needs to make their own choices and Apple gives us plenty!

I agree with this sentiment completely. I have opted for the cellular-enabled versions of each iteration of the iPad, and it has been a life saver. Also, I've gifted the iPad to all my family members, and have made sure that it was always a cellular enabled model, in case they ever needed to use it. In a couple of cases the option wasn't used for many months, but when Internet connectivity was most needed (and was otherwise unavailable) it was thankfully at hand. Basically, I feel that if you travel at all, or even commute on a regular basis, the most connected option, is by far the best option. Just my $0.02 worth....

No 4G, No regrets..

Bright house cable in my area are installing more WiFi locations, and its free for those that have their home service. WiFi at home as well, and most places I visit. So no regrets from me. Really dislike Verizons data cost.....

There are a bunch of pretty cool apps that make use of GPS. WiFi only doesn't have it. Also, your iPhone doesn't have LTE.

I'm not familiar with these GPS apps you speak of...

And yes, I know my iPhone doesn't have LTE, but I don't even know how LTE coverage is in my area, so why run the risk, you know? I'm perfectly fine with tethering it to my 3G iPhone on the rare occasion that I am away from WiFi.

Last year when our family went to Hawaii, I jailbroke my iphone 3GS (w/unlimited data) and bought the MyWi app ($15) to turn it into a hotspot for our wifi-only iPad 2. It worked, and I was surprised how much nicer it was to use the iPad on vacation than the iPhone 3GS. But MyWi made the iPhone very hot and on some occasions it froze and needed a hard reset. Also, some users here reported that AT&T detected tethering through MyWi and charged them. Since my phone is no longer jailbroken, I don't have that option anymore.

Instead of paying the extra $130 for 4G LTE, I thought maybe I'll just pay for the tethering option on the iphone but according to AT&T, unlimited data on iphone users would lose their unlimited data plan once you switched to the 5Gb personal w/tethering plan.

With all this in mind, I regretted pre-ordering the wifi only version, but luckily was able to cancel and order the 4G LTE this morning.

I had a first gen ipad with 3G. Used the 3G on it probably once. So I opted for a WIFI version this time. No regrets since I could just use my iPhone's hotspot if I ever needed internet on the road.

If you have an iPhone, or plan on getting the 4G iPhone this year, then I wouldn't buy the LTE iPad, when you can just tether!

I'm planning on getting The New iPhone :)p) this year, and will tether with my iPad 2.

Wi-Fi iPads all the way!

Had 3G on my previous ipad and never really used it. Plus the data plans are such a rip off!!! I'll just use my 4S as a hot spot. I don't mind the speeds on my 3G right now, so an ipad with 1gb of ram should run smoother.

I actually regret buying the 3G version for my GF once I thought good and well about the data we pay for on both our android phones. I have 4g in my area and rooted my phone. My rooted phone can tether for free without tmobile being able to stop me. That, coupled with both our phones having gps, makes paying for the extra worthless. We pay Comcast and tmobile enough as is...

I'd do it if I traveled a lot and need to be connected. I wouldn't like tying up my phone just to browse the web on my iPad.....my phone gets hot while tethering...if you are a 4g power user and you travel, then I'd go for it so you save your phone from the torment of tethering...

I just cancelled my 32GB wifi order and ordered the 32GD LTE on AT&T. This will be my first iPad, so I will see how much I actually use the LTE feature.
