I still can't decide! I have an 8+ and I'm feeling so conflicted! What are you all doing?

I really like my X but I’m ready to go back to the larger screen with the XS Max this year.

Do you think it will pocketable?
As stated above, if the 8 Plus fits in your pocket so will the XS Max. It’s literally the same footprint, just all screen in the front. I would say get the XS Max, going from a Plus to an X or XS might not be as enjoyable because it is smaller and more narrow.

For the price it ask, I suggest you to stay with your current phone unless you have a dinosaur one.

I see... Hmm, I probably shouldn't have ordered a regular case and screen protector from amazon then lol.

You have a Plus because you like the size. The only reason you're asking for advice, pep talk, whatever you want to call it is because of the price.

Max is one of the most idiotic names I have ever heard. Doesn’t a company like Apple have anyone to step in and tell them how dumb it sounds? My guess is they want to ditch the plus naming strategy because Samsung uses it. Not sure why now, but that’s just my guess.

Not really. The price never was the factor. It's mostly whether or not I should stick to a big screen real estate when the iPhone X was discussed as being a 'middle' of the iPhone regular and plus models.

How can someone on a forum know what you want? These posts always confuse me.

I actually feel as if the Xr size would have been a nice middle ground between both. Ah well, I guess I'll decide at the time of upgrade.

I have an 8 Plus and am getting the 6.5” (sorry hate the name). I didn’t get the X because I watch a lot of video and media content in landscape mode. On the X, despite being 5.8”, the letterboxing around videos (due to the non 16:9 aspect ratio) made videos look even smaller than on a 4.7” device. If you zoomed to fill the screen, it cropped the video.
So I don’t really consider the X, or XS, to be a middle ground. I see it as an elongated 4.7” but even further reduced viewing (at least height wise) when in landscape. The 6.5” phone should solve this. The dimensions of the 6.5” are ever so slightly shorter, and more narrow, than the 8 Plus. So in the pockets it’ll feel the same. But your one-handed thumb reach will be impacted. There isn’t that large bezel to push the top of the screen further down. Keep that in mind. Reaching for that upper corner will be that much further of a stretch now.

XS Max. There ya go. Decision made for you. :)

But I echo a lot of what was said here. I went from 7 Plus -> X and I really miss the extra screen estate when web browsing and watching videos. Surely it will be bigger, but I managed the 7 plus fine and the XS Max is marginally smaller, not any bigger.

16:9 videos on the X are 13% larger than the iPhone 8. 5” diagonal vs 4.7”. The Max will be 22% larger than the X at 5.53” diagonal vs 5” of the X.
