What will be the best plan of attack here: cloning my current drive to the new drive or a clean install, and transferring what I need?

Thanks for the help everyone. I ordered the 512 MX100 and a USB 3.0 enclosure for now (I'll look into TB later or put it into my MP). Only issue, isn't a '09 MP SATAII only as well?

I'll be holding off on the RAM for now but my usage monitor has it always going to full use under typical loads. I can free 1GB of it but it's usually gone within 10 minutes.

I wouldn't worry about the ram. All OS uses virtual memory (or page files). Read about it here.

With the SSD, paging is going to improve tremendously as well, so you may feel that everything is going faster.

I say go for clean install. Since you have ordered the enclosure as well, just transfer whatever you need over later.
Note: If your current hdd is encrypted, do decrypt it first.

I'll probably just transfer it from my Time Machine backup since the enclosure was the only item not prime eligible.
