Hey All,
I just got a Sapphire ATI 4870 1GB given to me today. I was reading through this thread and a few others, and I'm wondering if its possible to flash it so that both DVI ports work, and it uses PCIe x16. Right now I think the card is only capable of having one DVI port work at a time, and it's running below x16, the card is also about a year old.
The SKU# is 11133-04-20R
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am also running a Mac Pro 3,1 with 10.6.2 installed. Thanks again.
Cindori,
Someone recommended I post to this thread. In short, I bought a flashed Sapphire 4870 512 on ebay. Was told it supported dual monitors, SL. Im running a 1,1 with 10.6.2 and two VP2030b's (20.1"). The computer boots fine but I cannot get the second monitor to get a signal, it just stays black. Their max resolution is 1600x1200 at 60hz, so this shouldn't be a dual/single link dvi issue. Both run fine when switched to 7300gt. Would a flash with your program do the trick? The guy I bought it from said he had it running fine on a 1,1 with two 20" apple displays. Any other recommendations? Many thanks!
Hi there!
Thanks to this great forum and excellent contributors (Cindori, Netkas, The Rominator, Pipolo to name just a few) I have been able to successfully:
- create an EFI ROM for and flash a SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4870 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?psn=000101&pid=217
Hi Bruno (or anyone else who has used the above card),
Could you comment on 2 things:
1) Fit of the Vapor-X HD 4870 in slot 1 of the Mac Pro. I have heard issues concerning some of the Sapphire cards due to the extremely limited clearance below the card slot on the Mac Pro.
2) Functionality of the HDMI port. Assuming no sound, but does it work otherwise? HDCP support maybe?
I'm looking at the Vapor-X HD 4870 1GB which looks to be identical to the 2GB version from a dimensions point of view.
Thanks,
Mark
Thanks all for the response. I just noticed that I only have one power cable for the ATI 4870. Does anyone know where to buy the power cable?
Thank you very much! Successfully installed rom into 4890 vapor-x on macpro1,1. Natit did not work for me, instead I used remote desktop to connect and run AFT =)
Update: Bootcamp side goes wrong - noise, artifacts and so on... Do you have different ROM for macpro1,1?
