no it does not work in hackintoshes.

yes if the original rom works the modified one should too.

yes ofc the card should work in OSX and win.

what revision of ZWFL is the card?

if its E.0 then there is a rom here:

http://groths.se/atiflashingtool/ZWFLE-0.zip

flashing does not help 1% when using Hackintosh, adding EFI does not help anything since the computer is already running BIOS. for hackintosh, all it takes is "Graphicsenabler=yes" in boot.plist.

The zip posted is the Mac version of the Rev E.0 ZWFL ? Correct.
I'll have to look online to see where on the card the rev is posted? care to point it out? :)

-thanks

BTW, Card is currently in PC mode in a osX86 box, final destination is in a 3.1 8core, thus the desire to efi flash it.

I also want to thank cindori (big props). XFX card is working great for me, and the flashing tool made it easy and simple. Cindori where can we get quartz/extreme hacks etc when apple updates to 10.6.3 which is eminent, or do we have to hold off a while before updating?

Again, Awesome job.:D

usually netkas releases one, if not I will make one, or else you can edit the kexts yourself

I was going to release the QECI as an update to ATI Flashing tool, so when you open the tool it will prompt you to download the new patch. however, I am discontinuing ATI Flashing Tool .
instead I am working on a better and more powerful flashing tool.
btw, I really could use a beta tester, someone with 1 Apple X1900 and a PC 4870 or 4890. pm

Aria have 10x XFX HD-489A-ZDFL @£117.49 + p&p:

Cindori just posted a rom for that model here:

Get 'em while they're hot...

I would like to post a success using a card procured using the above tip. Note however that the card I received was not as advertised. I received the following:
HD-489X-ZSFL V1.3
I also flashed with the standard (non-overclocked) ROM in the rom zip file and not the one linked above.
At idle its quieter than the ATI2600 it replaces so I am happy. Just need to sort the wiring out as its over the drive bays at the moment!

Picked up a XFX HD 4870 card.
Part No.: HD-487A-ZWFC
HD 4870 750M 1GB DDR5 DUAL DVI PCI-E
Tiger Direct Feb 2010

I used the premade/pretested rom for the zwfc from the 1st post.

flashed and works, however I have 2 issues:
1) I get the annoying power cord warnings
2) Quake/Doom3/QE testing util all report the card as 256MB. I was expecting 1GB

I then tried the pipomolo42 method using my original rom dumped on a pc with GPU-Z:

But I could not boot properly after flashing... Perhaps I did not do it correctly, or perhaps my original dump was not good.

Here is my original rom dump, in case someone can validate my dump and re-mod...
Thanks!

same card

I got the same card, from the same ebay auction, I had some issues as well, the rom from the post above seemed to spec out correctly for me, cindori posted the link in a reply to me about the rev e.0 card, you might want to try that mac efi rom.

I get the correct memory info, but like you I get the power message, Im under the assumtion that this just isnt going to go away, I will pay attention though, incase you get somewhere

ATI flashing tool - help me out, please

Hey everyone,
I found this forum, thanks for being there
and started working enthusiastically
I have a Mac Pro 3.1 and a ATI HD2600 and want to switch to a MSI HD 4890 Cyclone (standart 1 GB).
1. I loaded the ATI flashing tool
2. started injector, installed Natit
3. booted again, monitor stayed dark
4. I flashed successfully anyway (by remote control)
5. Then I made a mistake and rebooted without removing Natit and installing Qe_ci pkg beforehand

now the problem: The mac doesn't boot with the 4890 anymore
I switched to the HD2600, the apple logo appears (for a while) while booting and then starts booting over and over again (in safety mode too)

What can I do?
I have a second drive with OSX and can boot normally there.
Does anyone know a way how to remove the change in the blocked OSX?

Thanks in advance
goyaman

remove ATY_INIT.kext and Natit.kext from System/Library/Extensions to remove Injector.

ok, my mac is back, the last step was that the 4890 has been flashed successfully, Natit has been removed and Qe_ci pkg has been installed.
Then I rebooted with the MSI HD 4890. This get caught... there appears a red LED light (hardware error)
I tired to begin anew.

I loaded the ATI flashing tool
started injector, installed Natit, booted again and... "ERROR" the Mac can't boot with the 4890!

I might have flashed the wrong ROM, but would that be the reason for the hardware error???
Can anyone tell me how I can get access to the 4890 again?

Thanks
goyaman

injector in ati flashing tool is broken; dont use it

as for red light after flashing, rom was not compatible

you still have the original rom?

no I haven't got the original rom, but can't I still test others? Or do I have to go back to the original rom first?
I try't to find a suitable one for my msi card but couldn't. Any suggestions??
I hope the Sapphire New Edition fits, it also has Quaimudo Chips and DVI+HDMI+VGA Out.

thanks for your help,
goyaman

edit: meanwhile i newly downloaded the ATI flashing tool and installed Natit again without success, red-led flashes again after installing the 4890.

Did you find someone ? I am using a flashed PC 4870 and I do have a X1900 in its box on the shelf. If it's not too complicated a task your asking then ill see if i can oblige.

OK, here is an update.. the suggestion to download the rev e.0 card was perfect since after this post I found problem #3

3) bootcamp windows booting did not work either.

the rev e.0 card rom otherwise labeled as "klar4870.rom" works in bootcamp.

So, now just the power message and proper video memory recognition remain, although the card seems to perform perfectly in Q4 and Doom3 at 1900x1200 ultra quality with over 100FPS on a original 1,1 MacPro.

why are you not reading?

Hey Cindori, sorry but i don't understand you properly, the ATI flashing tool did work once and i thought you meant the injection-file would be defect.

As soon as the 4890(with the unfitting rom) is installed, the Mac doesn't boot.
It doesn't boot together with the HD 2600 either.

I read quite a lot on different forums but i couldn't find anything for this particular situation. How can i get back to just flashing the card????

my English isn't the best, so I hope we don't get each others wires crossed.

so far I think my OSX is ok. The Mac boots fine and everything works when the 4890 isn't installed.

I found a lot of different hints concerning various bootcds, especially for installing OSX onto a PC.

Which "bootcd" helps me in my situation and how??? or is there a tread for this topic??

And what did you mean by "injector in ati flashing tool is broken"? It worked once?!

Injector in ATI flashing tool does not work.
The result will be that the display stays black after install, when It should give you image on the 4890.

You will not get image by using injector, cause it does not work.

Your card does not work anyway now, because you have a bad rom on it.

so, the 2 things u need:

a) A working ROM
b) Flashing using DOS

I could provide you with a) if you gave me your original ROM.

Here is way to flash using DOS (bootcd):

That's something concrete! Thanks.

1. here comes the original Rom, I found it at www.techpowerup.com

So if you can make the ROM fit, I'll try to flash with the DOS version.

Thanks in advance
goyaman
