Quite the diss. :D

Getting lots of questions about where the MacBook Pro is. Did anyone reputable say there would be one today? Have only heard as early as summer, which starts in two weeks.
It's easy to see in hindsight, but it seems the reputable analysts were non-committal, which left the door open to the possibility that they could be unveiled at WWDC. Keeping my fingers crossed for an awkwardly timed, surprise summer event :)

Macs have fallen to second place behind PC, I wonder why? Intel 32GB, M1 16GB, powerful, but still not powerful as 32GB. Chip shortage? Apple is a trillion dollar 'AMERICAN' company, but make the chips overseas. Pay the workers 35 cents instead 17 cents an hour and make more chips. I'm sure Covid falls in the argument also.

Combination of a few things I’d say.

Covid reducing supply.

Covid increasing demand for silicon everywhere - companies and people buying laptops for work-from-home.

2020 was a big year for releases. New silicon from apple, everyone selling more devices than ever. Also AMD releasing new chips and GPUs, NVidia releasing new GPUs, new XBox and PS5. And crypto heads artificially increasing the demand for half of this stuff because the prospect of inflation made crypto mining more valuable too.

Plus some stuff I’m probably forgetting.

Well, I guess I'll be having another look at the Dell XPS-13. I need a computer for school and unfortunately can't wait another few months for the new 14" Macbook Pro. Bummer.
So, first choice Apple Silicon based mac,
second choice Intel based Windows machine (not Intel based Mac)?

Macs have ALWAYS been second to PC, but, then again, there’s only Windows and Mac as commercial operating systems, so, yeah. always number two. And not even close, a very distant number 2. So I don’t know where you’re getting that they’ve just now fallen to second place.

1. Mac was never ahead of PC.
2. The M1 handles 16gb better than a PC with 16gb
3. The fabs that make 5nm wafers which the M1 is built are only made at TSMC, whose fabs are only in Taiwan. And any cutting-edge fab process is expensive, no matter the location.
4. Yes, COVID-19 turned the world on its ear.
