I never even knew Apple had a battery charger. But, $29 for a AA charger + 6 AA-batteries sounds like Apple pricing.
Not at all. That's about what you'd pay right now for a quality set of Japanese-built Eneloops and a charger. The batteries take a very solid charge, have a great shelf life, and are good for tons of cycles.

On the other hand, I guess $29 also buys you X number of disposable batteries which you can keep throwing away and replacing forever.

I've been slowly buying 2021 ATV 4K's and selling ATV 4's since the 2021 was released. I'm only about halfway done, sold another 4 today on eBay, immediately listed another.

I just looked in my desk drawer to see if I still have the battery charger, and I do. Now that it's vintage, I'm thinking five-figures on ebay?

My third gen Apple TV still works very well as day 1, so I don’t understand why it have been declared as vintage. THAT’S UNFAIR.

My receiver doesn't do sound through HDMI, so ATV3 is great with a separate optical audio port.

Shame they took that away in all the subsequent versions. But it is getting on now, especially software wise...
Yep, my ATV3 is only the second ATV I've owned, and it still has a place next to the "home theater" setup in the house, such as it is. Definitely getting on a bit, but we still use it for Netflix/Prime, the occasional iTunes rental, and streaming music to the amp. We just don't use our 1080p TV enough to really justify a new ATV, no matter how cheap they are, or how many things it does.

Replaceable rechargeable batteries? Apple would never stand for such a thing today. It's all about glued together, unserviceable and disposable to maximize profits.
And if history went in the other direction people would complain that they used to be able to charge with lightning and now Apple is making them buy extra parts to maximize profits...

I still use mine. The original batteries that it came with no longer hold a full charge though and my old trackpad that needed AA's has been relegated to my son :)

Do any other AAs work with this charger or should I just throw out the perfectly functional charger?

I still use my AA Battery Charger. although, I cannot locate two of the batteries.
