Still use my AppleTV 3rd gen daily. Works fine with Netflix, prime video, AppleTV+.. It's had a good run and it's served me well. I'll just use it until no one supports it anymore

I thought it was for the QuickTake camera for a second. :p

Noooooo not my Apple TV 3rd gen!

Actually who cares, YouTube doesn’t work very well anymore, constantly says an error has occurred.
Using my lightning to HDMI cable 99% of the time.

Apple probably forgot that they had this product and it needed some kind of repair and they’re like wait what? Quick put that on the list.

Wow time flies. I refused to buy anyone of these at that time because I believed that the keyboard and trackpads should have built in rechargeable battery and Apple finally did it with the excellent Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad 2.

Apple today informed Apple Authorized Service Providers that it will be adding its AA battery charger and the third-generation Apple TV to its vintage products list on October 31, according to a memo obtained by MacRumors.

apple-battery-charger-aa.jpeg

Introduced in July 2010, the Apple Battery Charger was priced at $29 and included six rechargeable AA batteries for use with the original Apple Wireless Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Mouse for the Mac. Apple discontinued the charger around 2016 and the Magic accessories now have built-in batteries that can be recharged via Lightning.

The third-generation Apple TV was released in March 2012 and many third-party apps have already phased out support for the device. The third-generation model is also the last Apple TV that does not run tvOS, and thus lacks access to the App Store.

In the past, vintage Apple products were no longer eligible for repairs at the Genius Bar or at Apple Authorized Service Providers, but Apple now provides service for up to seven years on vintage products, subject to parts availability.

The original Apple Watch was added to Apple's vintage products list last week.

Mine stopped working after a while, the LEDs just flashing green or amber.
I have an over 20 year old charger that is very slow and that still charges these batteries.
And it also charges AAA batteries, unlike Apple’s charger.

I still got mine and still using it and it best charger I used too and long lasting. Got it when I buy my first iMac 2013 (still using it). Apple own batteries best I ever used cos they last so long! 2 of them just died few months ago (I think around June) and others still working and using with my keyboard/trackpad. I had to get branded 3rd party rechargeable batteries (replace 2 ones died few months ago) and they just awful, last about 2 months and die. I don't know if I am unlucky or not. Apple own branded one last at least 8 years so far.

EDIT: I end up trying other branded ones and they still working but need recharge every 2 weeks though instead of 3-4 months like Apple own brand. At least this current branded ones isn't dying like other branded one I tried before.

Oh man these were the worst. if the battery terminals (that it came with) or the charger terminals were even a tiny bit dirty, it would blink orange and refuse to charge. Had to clean them every other charge at least.

batteries themselves are good (as they should be since they’re rebranded eneloops if I recall correctly)

edit: for the folks who are saying their 3rd party batteries (low self discharge types like these) dont last as long - make sure you look at the packaging and buy the “made in japan” (MIJ) ones. Many manufacturers are switching to made in china (MIC) and those dont last half as long. There’s a huge discussion on these in various forums. Both start off well but the MIC exhibit a sharp drop in capacity over time

I still use mine :) and one of the great design features is both batteries go in pointing the same way :)
or do all chargers do that :-(

I'm still using mine (including the original batteries), so I'd say that $29 investment was a good one.
They were essentially rebranded "Eneloop" batteries. Eneloop batteries are still sold, and are now the only rechargeable batteries I buy.
I Have a Kyosho mini-Z used to use sony's on it, but Eneloops are considerably better on every aspect. I don't know the magic behind it but Eneloops are fantastic even on the fast discharge cicles that those mini cars use, providing way more punch to it on a constant rate trough the run. Never had the apple charger, never knew about it, but for my eneloops i'm using a ISDT N8 And I'm very happy with it even trough this charger is more designed for RC hobbysts and kinda overkill for charging your remotes AAs.

I still have mine and still use the batteries to this day. The charger unfortunately went faulty and has been for some time, but the batteries are still good.

I have the batteries and they still work great. I think they were manufactured by Sanyo and were essentially Apple branded Eneloops. The charger died a few years back unfortunately.

Plug it in when you go on a coffee break? Or when you go out to lunch? Or at night before you go to bed? 🤔
Well yes those are the options. “It’s like your holding it wrong” I work 10 hours at a desk no break so….. I have to plan how long till I need to charge it and if I forget I can’t use it at all was my point. it’s a mouse my computer is useless with out I’d rather buy batteries they have the headache. Better engineering would allow it to be plugged in and still be used.

Batteries are such great things! I use those Apple adapters for ages… especially on my travels. It‘s awesome when you only need to pack this battery charger and your Lightning cable+adapter and you have basically everything you need for phone, ipad, razor, toothbrush, headlamp, mouse, keyboard etc.

Still have it, and even have the 4 batteries that I bought with it.
I do to and I still use it with same batteries and charger. They still hold a good charge. Have to say it was a great purchase 10 years ago since I still use it and not a single hiccup.
