When you got your "$200" phone, then got it lost/stolen/dunked in water did it cost $200 to replace it?

No you had to pay the unsubsidized price.

If you have an apartment do you pay property tax? Not directly, the landlord builds those costs into what he rents it for. Hence you pay property tax. It's just hidden from the renter?

The early penalty fee for a phone decreased with time. Showing you were in effect paying off an obligation ( hidden loan for phone).

You clearly dont understand the cost of doing business. Logistics, realestate, R&D personnel, R&D capital for tools, HR, legal, finance, advertising, licensing, etc etc etc.

You're right man... I'm clueless. We can most definitely chalk up the reasons behind Apple products costing 3x and 4x the price of comparable products made by others as... "a cost of doing business."

Just like that $50 rapid charger you need to buy for your $1000 phone that Samsung includes with their phones.

Yep... the cost of doing business. Doesn't have a thing to do with corporate greed. Not a thing.

I prefer to see it as Samsung needs to sweeten the deal some to get people to buy their wares.

Apple doesn't.

In 10 years from now, remember when the X only cost $1149?

... and all the Apple fanboys will no doubt be preaching "I have no problem paying $3000 for a phone. It's not corporate greed, it's the cost of doing business. Samsung has to give free things away to sweeten the deal to get people to buy their wares... Apple doesn't."

Samsung will be doing the same thing. But fandroids will be paying 2999 and say it’s a steal and call iPhones overpriced.

I think that's what you meant to say.

On Verizon Nationowide unlimited everything was $120 + taxes/fees, which brought it to $135/mo for a single line. Hotspot was $30 extra. Many people had corporate discounts though, which could bring it down to about $110/mo if you had a 20% discount.

Now unlimited everything is $90 - $5 for autopay with taxes/fees comes to about $95/mo and 15GB of hotspot is included. That's a savings of $40/mo if you are on autopay plus you get 15GB of hotspot that you didn't get with the Nationwide plans. Even with a 20% corporate discount, that is still a savings of $15/mo.

Holy hell you Americans had to pay a lot!

I currently have unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 5 gig data for £10 a month. Should count myself lucky!

Dude, I remember when iPhones were so easy to pre-order and get it on launch day because it was only on one carrier.

June 24, 2010 was a perfect day for me.

When they were solely AT&T, waiting for hours in a line was how it was really done for
Iphones.

Don’t miss that at all.

The iPhone was “cheaper” if you kept renewing every 2 years and never really needed to switch plans. Never saw my bill go down when I was out of contract for those few months. Remember, the iPhone used to release over the summer then it changed to September release. ATT’s iPhone Unlimited plan was a unique plan that only they could offer. Verizon was late to the iPhone game and T-Mobile was crappy and didn’t have the iPhone from the start like ATT.

All those stating that ETF fees were how companies made up the difference, then this wouldn’t even apply for those that remained on ATT.So how can you “add” this price for those that never incurred this fee?

IPhones were cheaper when all that appeared you paid for was the subsidized price ie $199 and $160 monthly (2 iPhone with unlimited data) that never changed out of contract.

There was also no reason to change plans since ATT was good enough for me. No complaints with the service and I had unlimited data.

I prefer today’s plans actually. With the IUP and iPhone X for example, upfront I pay $125. Tax and first monthly $56. I switched to TMo and have unlimited everything for $80 a month. I also have Apple Care and I can renew every year.
I don’t see the advantage of paying full price for unlocked phone. $1200 is a lot and Apple Care isn’t even factored in yet.
