If you have an iPhone 8, Apple Watch Series 3, or Apple TV 4K scheduled for delivery tomorrow, be aware that Apple requires its courier partners like UPS and FedEx to collect a signature upon delivery since they are valuable items.

Fortunately, if you won't be home during the day, Apple offers the option of printing, filling out, and affixing a pre-signed notice to your door, allowing the courier to leave the package without someone being there to sign for it.

How to Pre-Sign for Delivery
  1. Open your shipment notification email from Apple.

Click on the blue Pre-Sign for Delivery button.
Click on the gray Pre-Sign for Delivery button on Apple's order status page.

Check the "I accept the above terms and conditions" box and click the blue "Continue" button.

Click the blue "Print this page" button on the Release Authorization page.

Fill out the form with your complete address information and phone number.
Indicate whether you would like the delivery at the front door, back door, or somewhere else.
Print your first and last name, sign, and date the form.
Affix the form somewhere near the designated place of delivery.
There is also the option to authorize delivery to a neighbor or building manager, but the person must be present to sign for the package. If you prefer this option, make sure to include the person's address on the form.

To ensure that packages are not stolen once the courier leaves, all deliveries are subject to the discretion of the driver. If a delivery is not completed, the driver will leave a door tag detailing the steps you can take to receive your package.

As a point of emphasis, be aware that your shiny new products could be stolen before you get home, and Apple would not be responsible. For this reason, delivery to a back door or other obscure location, or to a neighbor, is the best option.

If you opt not to pre-sign at all, and the package arrives while you are away from home, the driver may attempt delivery again later or, as mentioned, leave a door tag detailing the steps you can take to receive your package.

I've had my pre-orders delivered to work in the past. That required having the shipping address = the billing address... which meant I had to change my address with my credit card company to be that of my work. Such a ridiculous hassle. I didn't pre-order the 8 (waiting for the X), but wondering if they still have this ridiculous requirement of shipping = billing address? If so I guess I'll go through the same routine next month... or possibly just have it sent to my local store for pickup if that's an option.

Is the Apple TV4K 64Gb delayed?
I order as soon as it went on sale and my delivery is end of September to October 3.

Yes they’re seeing shortages. It’s been reported many times. However, if you truly ordered it as soon as pre-orders were accepted then I am shocked that yours isn’t arriving tomorrow.

Personally I pre-ordered the 32GB About 2 hours after pre sale started. My delivery date is tomorrow. But 64GB is more popular

Correct me if I'm wrong but when you aren't home to sign the package they just leave and you can pick it up at their service centre or whatever it's called, right? If that's the case, I just think pre-signing is a bad idea, especially for a phone that goes up to (and above) $1k, you don't want them to leave it at your door just so you can use your device a day earlier.

What's to stop the UPS driver from walking away with it?

It's possible. But I like to think UPS does a fairly thorough background check on who they hire and they seems to have a consistent staff, at least in my area. I never have had issues with UPS drivers and I trust their services over any other.

Interesting...

I want to change the shipping address to my work address. If I recall from the iPhone 7 preorder last year, buying via Apple Store using carrier upgrades, the shipping defaults to the billing address associated with carrier, even if you change it on the Apple account. Can I change the billing address on the AT&T carrier website, then with Apple? Will that work as long as I did it well in advance of placing the preorder?

You must not have completed the sale close to launch, as the 64gb did slip delivery window fairly quickly.

I think I know what you mean here mate, but I preordered the atv 4k with a card that has a billing address different than where I shipped it to.

I too am having it delivered to work, and behold that tomorrow of all days we're being allowed to come in 2 hours later, which will put that time off during the UPS delivery window (ugh. first world problems =/). We have a cool business in the same plaza that I know the people in, so I'm about to go down and ask if they'll allow a package to be delivered there instead.

I'm also having a new set of cat 6a cables delivered which I'm hoping to get in time for tomorrow as well! Want to use the atv with Infuse to watch movies/tv shows we have downloaded that are stored on a computer. Too bad we moved recently and my 50ft cat5e is not long enough to go from router -> pc D=

And that's just one of the many perils of that option. Besides the obvious one of theft, you also don't have the opportunity to inspect the package for physical damage, before signing.

All in all, way too risky to just leave it at the door. If you don't have a trusted neighbor who's home, pick it up yourself at the dispatch centre on Sat. So you get to play with it on Sat instead of Fri evening, no sweat.

from what I've learned about UPS drivers - they're extremely well compensated. you do have to have to grind your way through several years of lower positions and lower paying jobs before you can become a UPS driver. it's probably not worth risking their job to steal a $1k phone.

not saying that it never happens, but most wouldn't risk it.

slightly off topic: any time you report a damaged/missing package, the person responsible in delivering your package gets blamed/marked and UPS makes a record of it. if there are too many marks on his/her record, they'll get reassigned to sorting.

You have zero recourse if it does disappear, so that’s my fear... Considering how long some of us have waited to upgrade, ain’t worth that risk.

I hear they might have them at the store? I might pick a 32gb also since I need two.

Good call... I felt like I was forgetting something. Such a pain to go through this, no reason why you shouldn't be able to pick the shipping address you want at the time of order (I don't have this problem placing online orders with any other companies).

When I switched my address in the past I did it 1-2 weeks in advance to be safe. I switch the address at both my carrier and the credit card I'll be paying with so they all match to be safe.

lol, also i hate sounding like a broken record:

They tend to be the nicest, too. I noticed it when I dealt with them at work and now at home. The guy who delivered to my office even had the last name of "Brown" for real. When I first met him, he made fun about the fact he also had brown skin, brown hair and eyes, the name of Brown, and his uniform and truck were all brown and of course his company was nicknamed "Brown". Oh Jeez, it just occurred to me he must be about 60 now. I hope he's well and has gotten a nice retirement.

He was an awesome person, a true gentleman. If he arrived at the same time as the Fed-Ex guy he used to help the Fed-Ex guy unload stuff because our shipments could be pretty heavy. I used to have to move them within the building, myself, while wearing heels.:rolleyes:

This is one of the times that I appreciate living in a city with one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

We still have neighbors who don't lock their doors. Since I have lived other places we still have an alarm system and keep our doors locked even when we are home, but I have done the pre-sign many times and don't really worry about my stuff being stolen.

Don't know what CC you're using, but I have multiple 'authorized addresses' on file with American Express so I can ship to multiple addresses as needed / convenient. As long as I use any one of those the transaction will get approved.

That's pretty cool, not sure if my credit card offers that feature. I would still run into the hassle of changing the address at my carrier to my work address.
