Since I'm trying to replace an existing phone, the ordering process craps out for me every time the system tries to determine my eligibility through AT&T. I've tried using the App Store app and apple.com on and off throughout the day with no success.

While this is frustrating, I expect that any orders placed within the next few days will still be delivered by June 24th. More than anything though it just highlights AT&T's ineptitude. As if they didn't see this coming. Utterly ridiculous and inexcusable.

My order was placed on Att.com at around 5:30 a.m. EDT, and although I got an order number, etc., I never received a confirming email.

I didnt get an email either but it is in the Order Status area on the ATT site .... is this something to worry about?....

I didnt get an email from apple either when i signed up for the "Notify Me" thing.

Finally got through via the Apple store, no confirmation email yet. Now I need to do it again for the second iPhone on my family plan...

Just got this when I tried to log into AT&T. Maybe they are finally doing something about this mess? ;)

Okay, downloaded the Apple Store app on my iPad, and put in the info asked for (not asked to choose a plan).

Got a message saying that due to heavy demand, Apple wasn't processing orders through the app.

10 seconds later, I get an email from Apple saying thanks for reserving the iPhone. No confirmation number, but Apple might simply be relying on their stored info of the person ordering, and not bothering with conf. numbers.

Is this the actual confirmation? Any other day, I'd say yes, but today I'm not so sure.

Well, yeah.

Apple could have cached AT&T's data given that they had a week's notice that they were going to take pre-orders for a device that was going to be extremely popular.

But that would have forced them to think different.

Anyone else think this is the best advertising Dell's server business ever had?

Maybe they like this type of publicity. Maybe they want it to happen. "The new iPhone is so popular, that the demand crashed even the mighty servers of corporate giants Apple and AT&T."

Same here. I did get to see the "In process" order status on the AT&T site a few hours ago. (Must have been during a brief lull in the s**t storm that has been hitting those servers all day.)

I preordered around 5:50am eastern time this morning and got a confirmation email almost immediately. I checked my account earlier today and in my order status the preorder was listed. Try checking there if you're able to access your online account. I am not able to log in now because they're upgrading their systems (a little tardy there, don't you think?). :D

it shows up there im just worried about this system update that my order might be cleared

This is a confirmation that you get to go down to the Apple store and wait in line with hundreds of other people picking up their "Reserved" iphones on June 22nd. See you there.

Anyone who thinks this has anything to do with the capabilities of the server hardware, well, I want some of whatever they're smoking.

Interesting choice of words. If the deluge of data is a "s**t storm" what does that make us? Are we the s**t? Or maybe just he apes hurling it.

Just got mine reserved through the Apple Store App, and received an email right away. I did not have to select a rate plan or any of that, so I am guessing that is not required to reserve a phone?
You may have "reserved" an iPhone 4 but I don't think you "pre-ordered" it and that's a *huge* difference.

From what I understand, "reserved" means you show up at the Apple Store on the 24th, wait in a (potentially long) line and you may have the opportunity to buy an iPhone if they have any left in stock.

I just got done "pre-ordering" my iPhone 4. I had to choose a data and messaging plan (being an existing AT&T customer, I carried over my existing voice plan), provide a credit card number and then I had to option of picking up the phone at an Apple Store or having it shipped to my home.

If you really want the phone on the 24th, you should try to "pre-order" one instead of having one reserved.

Advertising is about image, not reality. And the image is stark - Apple's Xserves - for whatever reason - are FAILING.

I'm sure Apple's servers are holding up just fine, it's all on AT&T's side. AT&T needs to get a clue, and outsource their data center to Akami or Amazon and call it a day.

Finally got my order though for home delivery via Apple's website after trying all day. No email confirmation yet, but keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck to the rest who are still waiting - there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I started trying to order on the Apple site at 120am PST i kept getting part of the way and then it timed out. I then began trying the ATT site. Kept trying both until 2 am and finally got through and was able to upgrade our 3 phones on the family plan on ATT's site. Still no confirmation email but when i check the status online it shows the order for 3 iphone 4G's.

I sitll cannot get through!! Apple seems to be trying to bypass AT&t now by having me pickup in-store without doing a real pre-order, but I am not interested in that...

Frustrating...

A bit frustrating, but I managed to get the preorder through about an hour or so ago.

Didn't have a chance to get on earlier as I was traveling, but after about 5 tries this afternoon, it went through.

No confirmation email from Apple yet, but the order shows up when I log into my account at apple.com.

There are probably increases in server hits now because people are getting in from work (East coast) and trying to get through via apple.com, so hang in there!

Not unusual for such a popular device, and I think that everyone who wants the iPhone 4 will probably get one within the first few weeks of launch

One thing I found unusual was the shipping option-mine showed as "Ships on June 24th" with the free shipping option, and "Delivers on June 24th" with the 10$ 2-3 day shipping option. I chose the standard shipping (free) and the order confirmed as "Delivered on June 24th" as it should be :)

I got it?

They leave me a message with...

See you at the store!

But I didn't get an email, they didn't ask for an itunes account password, and I got no "summary". Should I be worried?

As someone who has been on the other side of the fence, desperately trying to cobble together a solution to a pathological server overload situation, I'm just looking at it from their point of view. ;)

YES!!! I thought I had pre-ordered, but I went back and tried it again. I actually reserved one. Turns out the process failed and put a message in the upper left of the screen saying so. But on the right side of the screen it was asking me to pick a store for pickup. I went right into that without realizing that was for RESERVATIONS not for PRE-ORDERS!!! I have two reservations, but I have NOT preordered!

Apple Store iPhone App Works

I just downloaded the Apple Store App and I ordered mine through there, it worked just fine. :D

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this message has been up for a good three hours for me. If you would look back in this topic you would see it ;)

Not only that, but it is such a childish, ridiculous lie. "Upgrade"? Really? You knew at least a week ago that the new phone was coming and you want us to believe that this is the day you chose for a system upgrade? Seriously?

after over 8 hours trying, finally got my pre-order through AT&T. no confirmation email, but i did get an order#.

one thing that's annoying is they required my AT&T billing address to match the shipping address. what about people that want to ship it to their work and can't be home to sign for it? not sure if Apple had that same restriction, but i gave up after 8 hours of trying to order it through them...
