I feel it's necessary to point everyone to the place where I got the graphics files to mod my Dock. Early this morning, a user over on the Ars Technica forums was the first person that I had seen mention this mod. Here's his original post:

http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8300945231/m/111001128831?r=963004628831#963004628831

He then followed up with a post including a link to download the graphic files:

http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8300945231/m/111001128831?r=345004628831#345004628831

And finally, here's a direct link to his graphic files:

http://www.dlpart.com/dock/DarkDock.zip

Credit must go out to ciel over at the Ars forum, as these graphic files appear to be his doing. He's calling the package "Dark Dock". Awesome stuff ciel!

EDIT: I also wanted to point out that ciel's zip package also includes a Readme file with very clear instructions on how to complete this mod.

If you delete just the scurve file will the dock look like a straight piece of glass? I'm still running tiger and was wondering this.

Very easy to get once you modify the frontline.jpg, scurve files, and the indicator pngs.

Well yes just remove the pngs related to the reflection.

hey everyone,

I spent a good deal of time yesterday learning some Javascript and using Dashcode and made a widget that allows you to swap between 2D and 3D dock styles from dashboard. It's avaliable for download on my site:

http://www.unofficialitguy.com

or avaliable here (see attached).

Distribute freely (Kopimi)

You guys, before you go hog wild deleting things from within the Dock package... bear in mind that Dashboard uses those PNGs too. Not the same ones, but it stores its' PNGs in the same place.

So, if you use Dashboard, and you delete all of the PNGs... you just made your dashboard quite trippy.

I don't think any PNGs are related to reflection. The reflection is an active process that changes with whatever is on the desktop behind the Dock, including the desktop picture.

Question: I followed ivnj's steps (perfectly explained by the way, even a noob like me didn't get lost) and voila, gone is that ugly dock effect. However... so are the small triangle/arrow thingies that point out if something is open/running or not. I tried to find out which file needs to remain but alas, no luck.

Is it possible to remove the effect but keep the triangles? If so, how?
