remove optical drive to save weight and improve cooling?

Had to be useful before it would be obsolete. I guess the technical term for Blue Ray would be worthless.

There is nothing that exceeds the quality of Blu-ray Video that is available on the consumer market. Certainly not that "HD" crap from the iTunes Store.

exactly cave. BD is the "top" line product, its like saying LightPeak is worthless.

So it's okay to just remove the optical drive and not replace it with anything? Are there going to be any dangling wires that can cause problems internally?

It is okay and no there won't be any dangling wires. There is one fairly short cable that plugs directly into the motherboard that you can remove as well. it is a data and power all in one....

You can unplug the cable off the board if that bothers you that much.
