Wouldn't it be nice? The notch may not be so terrible after all.
What do you think?

Holy dam it looks even weirder now

Looks weird because it is not symmetrical... I think Apple could have completely eliminated the the notch in the X if Face ID was not a concern. The earpiece could have moved up to the very top like the essential phone and the front camera, proximity sensor, and ambient light sensor could have all ben incorporated into what bezel does remain around the display.

The essential phone has a notch for the camera as well. The bezel is too thin for it to work like that.

This isn't a sneak speak of anything. Renders are likely never real world indicative of what a phone is likely going to look like. Let alone this specific one.

I think the notch is here to stay...it wont get any smaller, apple have made a conscious decision with the notch and this is what makes it distinctive for better or worse, that is how you will instantly know its an iphone and not something else.

just wondering...when the Plus model of the X comes out, obviously it will have a bigger screen but I think the notch will remain the same size as the current X. So you'll have more space in both the ears to use up, maybe we'll see a few more notification icons in that larger space.

Pretty excited to see a Plus model X, so much screen real estate, but I think the current X will be the perfect form factor in terms of maximum screen size and one hand usability, apple have nailed the form factor with the X.

Well maybe not the current bezel but a slightly enlarged version on the top and bottom.

The earpiece could be incorporated in the seam between the metal and glass like the essential phone, proximity sensor could be ultrasonic and under the display, and the ambient light sensor incorporated in the bezel. The front facing camera would be the only issue and could have a significantly smaller notch or as before, slightly enlarged bezels (maybe 1.5x thickness as the side bezels) on the top and bottom to make things symmetrical. Same body size but a ~5.75” display instead of a 5.8” display.

Unfortunately the true depth camera system makes that design impossible...

Funny, a friend made a joke recently that the notch would progressively get smaller each year as a part of future releases. From a notch to a nipple before finally disappearing, but it won’t matter because at that point everyone will be ready for an all new redesign, ala iPhone 8. Now this post... gotta love sarcastic humor.

I do not want to think of a nipple every time I look at my phone thanks.

- It would be the XI not the X2
- That actually looks worse and actually comically bad.

I think it will be better that not the length to be smaller but the height/thickness

Without the extraneous Face-ID sensors, had the Touch-ID been integrated under the screen on iPhone X.. it would have been a homerun. Too bad. A great opportunity missed by Apple :(

Taking away 3D Touch instead to get the Touch-ID under display working would have been a better idea.

I’m really intrigued to know what product line do you design as your daily job?
