guys, I've just seen iTunes have Despicable Me in 4K to rent.
If I rent it, would it be a stream or a download? I'm dreading a download would eat a lot of my data.
Unless something has changed recently the 4K movies only stream and not download.
I found rentals were hd onlyUnless something has changed recently the 4K movies only stream and not download.
Dude, streaming it will eat the same amount of your data as would downloading it It's temporarily downloading it to your ATV 4K as it caches the film.
I reckon that a 90 min film in 4K HDR HEVC will be coming in at 12-15GB.
Ouch! 12-15gb!!!! I think I'll need to call my provider to see what sort of data allowance I have.
Rentals should be 4K DV/HDR as well as purchases dude!I found rentals were hd only
Though Sony tv displays 2160p so maybe does some upscaling.
Streaming only may well be the demand from Hollywood studios at that price point.I'm on the other side of the fence. I want a download. I have a NAS and I don't want to use data every time my kids watch and rewatch and rewatch a film. Give us an OPTION at least.

UHD blurays at the moment sell at double the price. OK, that also accommodates for a 2-disc set and region-free discs.
I never thought about it that way! That's an even bigger OUCH! I was going to buy Wonder Woman on 4K but didn't realise that I'd get hit for streaming every time.
Is there any reason why they won't allow downloads? I mean, you've bought their box, used their software, paid for the film, it's yours, so where is the issue?

Yes, but whether you stream or download, the film is still yours for half the price, right? As I said above, I just don't understand! Or am I totally missing something, somewhere?
Actually, I am not even sure, it is yours. It's intellectual property (like eg software). You can buy only the right for private use. But you will never own it.Yes, but whether you stream or download, the film is still yours for half the price, right? As I said above, I just don't understand! Right, the more and more I think about all this, the more and more I think in a way using the like of iTunes, Amazon etc is a rip-off (I understand we choose to do it, but most people don't realise they're being ripped off). Especially when you look in to what priitv8 said about ownership. And I do think he is spot on. All we need to do is look back at that iTunes music debacle where someone wanted to leave all their iTunes music to someone else in their will and Apple said 'NO!"
iTunes **can** be a bargain if you keep your eyes peeled for the bargains (CheapCharts is amazing). But a lot of the times you can get physical discs for the same price, if not actually cheaper, than iTunes and you DO actually OWN the blooming thing (Dawn of Justice went on sale on iTunes today BUT is still cheaper on Amazon to buy a blu ray disc)!!! I know we've discussed the value of 4K films... but then we can digress into quality, ownership etc.
Bodybuilderpaul, I'm one of those people who watches a film almost every night :-D And then I suffer like hell the next morning when I gotta get my lazy ar$e outta bed :-(
In the UK, a lot of home broadband providers are offering unlimited data. Mine is capped at 750GB a month with a 250mbps speed but to be honest, I've never gone over 100GB a month - maybe it will increase a little with my 4K ATV but we only tend you watch one o two films a week anyway
I have 4K films bought from Vimeo in the older h264 and they are 9GB in size per 60 minutes.
I guess that you can find out the size of the films by checking your broadband invoice and seeing a daily breakdown of data used!
Even 4 films (4K DV/HDR) watched a week which to me would be excessive is only approx 250ish GB a month. Not too bad
But do check your broadband allowance contract

You should definitely be able to rent a 4K iTunes movie dude. The iTunes store clearly states this: "Buy or rent a great selection of 4K HDR films".I don’t want to disagree, though iTunes movie purchases in U.K. clearly advise rentals are shown in HD only.
T.b.h Apple4k HD movie rentals are excellent quality though no where near 4k quality if for example I switch to Sky UHD the difference is noticeable.
Absolutely agree, the main point of all this is the enjoyment of the film... and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack wouldn't half make it even more enjoyable ;-) And then, when you've finished watching it, pressing the eject button on the UHD player, taking the disc out, making sure not to get grubby finger-prints on it, putting it gently away in the sleeve and putting it back where it belongs on the bookcase ;-)
I think I'm getting old :-D
Hope you guys are using the discounts from Quidco I mentioned above
[doublepost=1511101061][/doublepost]A quick question about a problem - I rented Wonder Woman for my little girl who has been going on about it. I bought it on my Mac and downloaded it.
Problem is I can see the film on my Video app under Rentals. But it doesn't show on my iPhone.
I'm logged in to the same itunes account and I can see all my purchases. It's just the rentals I can't see on the iPhone.
What version of iOS are you using dude? Anything older than iOS10 will not function properly on the rentals multi platform. If up to date, sign out of iTunes on your iPhone and sign back in.
My iPhone is on ios 10.2. My purchases show. It's just the rentals that don't.
My iPad which is on 10.3.3 shows my rentals.
I did sign out of itunes and back in again but that didn't work.
[doublepost=1511112383][/doublepost]Problem solved - You MUST have 10.3 as a minimum!!!
