Ok.
The guy (genius) who I've been dealing with gave me a call this morning and left a message to call him back so he can update me on the status of my computer.
Due to a little too much to drink last night, I didn't call him back until just now, this evening.
He tells me that they've replaced parts in my laptop, and tried everything, but the "Airport" problem is not going away, and at this point, it would be ridiculous to keep putting more time and parts and labor into the computer if it's not going to work.
So what they're going to do is get me a new one. He said either the exact same model, but if they don't have anymore of those, they will give me a new unibody model. *crosses fingers for unibody!*
I told him that's cool, and I prefer the matte screen, but if they don't have anymore, then a uni-body will be ok.
He said it will be Wednesday or Thursday before it's in.

Happily, I'm getting a new computer.
Should I still ask for something for my aggravation and time lost?
Perhaps a sleeve, a chill mat, or even applecare extended warranty?
What say you?

You're getting a new computer/unibody... don't be greedy now.

<gets ready for your lashings> jk.

If you get a replacement machine of the same spec, than It wouldn't be too much to ask for compensation, since this shouldn't have happened in the first place.

But if you get a unibody well....your entitled to ask but I wouldn't expect anything.

It never hurts to ask, but if you do, word it very politely. I would say:

"I appreciate that you tried your hardest to resolve the problem, but there was still much time lost and consequence in way of school for not having my notebook to do my work. Perhaps I could get a[an] {insert what you want the most for free that is reasonable} for the trouble to protect my brand new notebook?"

The worst thing they can do is give you an angry look and say no... They won't take the possible unibody or your same model for asking. That would be illegal.

I would give it a shot!

Dude, he told you it would be stupid to keep putting more time into the computer so you're getting a new unibody. THAT is your compensation. Don't be greedy.

I'm glad your problem was resolved.

I doubt they tried everything. You can replace the logic board at the very worst.

but first they should have:
1. checked the I/O flex cable for proper seating (i've seen no sound, no airport, and no left USB because of it.). If the power cable is plugged in, it can still charge the computer, etc. but everything else on that side does not work.

2. replace I/O Flex cable

3. Replace I/O Board

4. Replace Airport Card

5. Replace Logic Board.

but even so, you could have gotten an exchange if the computer was purchased within 14 days.

and a lot of the parts that are used to repair Macs are refurbished. One time a "new" hard drive we got from Apple had "bad" written with sharpie on it. we sent it back as DOA.

but i'm glad you're gettin a new computer :)

Did you buy from Apple or a resellar?

I got mine from Amazon.com

And I'm glad I'm getting a new computer too. :)

Just to be safe though, I'm going to call and ask that they don't open it. I want to open the sealed box.

*UPDATE COMING AT YOU FROM THE APPLE STORE*

They went ahead and upgraded me to the new UNibody 2.53 GHz 4 gigs ram etc model. Sweet.
Will check in once I get home.
I love Apple!

I'm just waiting for data migration now.

good news dude! well done!

Ok. Back home now.
Unfortunately I left without computer in hand, as data migration was going to last 2+ hours. I had to be back by 5:30 so i couldn't stay there all night. I'll just pick it up tomorrow. What's one more day going to do to me after 2 weeks?

I am stoked though. I was very skeptical at first, but this baby was a sealed in box brand new Unibody.
I don't like how they wrap them in a plastic sleeve now instead of that soft fiber sleeve of the previous gen. I do like the giant track pad.
I wanted to film my unboxing ceremony, but I opened it at the apple store and would have looked like an ass filming myself open the box there.

I think it's super sweet that I got a bump in processor speed (2.53 GHz) but the real wow factor comes in the form of receiving 4 gigs of ram instead of the 2 gigs that came with the lemon.
I'll make do with the glossy screen for now. I'll go see TechRestore for a matte swap.

Hope you've changed your perception about Apple now.. mistakes do happen, and Apple tends to correct it and most of the times, they go above and beyond of what is expected.

Btw, I got that screen cover for my unibody MBP.. works great - no reflections, and protects the screen from fingerprint (and paw prints.. my cat loves the screen!)

What I tell ya! :D

I would congratulate you but looks like I've done it in a previous post in this thread! ;)

Great to hear another success story. I think you were owed a unibody after all that trouble. You originally had a 2.5 GHz classic right? It makes sense they gave you the 2.53 unibody. Congrats on the new unibody and enjoy it!!

Yeah, I had the 2.5 GHz model.
Guys, thanks for all the support and responses.
I've decided not to ask for anything more, since it's a pretty significant upgrade from the classic model.
I mean, It has 2.53 GHz, 45nm tech, 1066 FSB (instead of 800), 4 Gigs 1066 RAM (instead of 2-gigs), DUAL GPU's at 512 megs GeForce 9600 (instead of a single 512meg 8600 which may or may not fail) PLUS a 320 gig Hard Drive (instead of 250 gig). Add to that the panache of having the latest model (which I couldn't afford), It's a sweet deal after all...
Have I mentioned how much I love Apple yet? :D:apple:

*Update*

Finally! I'm home with my new mac! As I mentioned before, it is indeed the new Unibody 2.53 GHz model with 4 gigs of ram.
What an upgrade, eh?
I don't like the glossy screen already. I'm sitting here in my dimly-lit room and can see my shirt and the back wall in the darker areas of the desktop.
At first I thought I loved the giant trackpad, but it's loud 'click' (which is difficult to do by the way) and huge area make it a bit of a pain. Accidental movements of the mouse are commonplace when using the trackpad. As are accidental right-clicking due to two-finger placement (thumb/index).

The unibody structure however looks gorgeous. I love the tiny holes for the speakers. They're like the size of a human hair!

I do not like the USB ports being moved to the left side and the Superdrive on the right. But I'll learn to live with it. I'll just have to re-arrange my desk and room.
I looked at the receipt that the Apple Store had for the swap, and it was a very significant amount more for this machine than what I paid for the the previous gen lemon. It's almost tempting to sale the thing and turn a quick profit. But instead I think I'll keep her. You don't come across deals like this every day.

I'm trying not to get too excited however...We know what happened last time I was in love with my mac...It died 2 days later.
We'll see how long this one lasts. I hope it lasts a good long while.
Thanks for the support peeps! Apple FTW!

Congrats on the new computer but it's too bad you're not loving it. As of tonight my MBP repair status says "repair cancelled" but since it's not under warranty I doubt my situation will turn out anything like yours.

Your new laptop also has SATA300 instead of SATA150. So if you ever want to upgrade to a SSD down the road, you will be able to take full advantage of the speed increase.

DUAL GPU's at 512 megs GeForce 9600 (instead of a single 512meg 8600 which may or may not fail)

Umh, it's not a dual GPU, it's two GPU that are used one at the time: the integrated 9400m, which is also available on the MacBook and the (single) 9600m GT.

Wow, that sucks. But sometimes they'll 'cancel out' one repair order and start a new one with a different number. (That's what they told me at least)
My Uni-body is really growing on me. I'm loving it more and more. It's frikin' fast. (Coming from an old Toshiba A85-S107 1.4Ghz)
I purchased a Dell 2209WA External monitor, so the glossy problem in my room has gone away. I know it will be a problem when I go mobile however.
Combined with my Pen Tablet and external keyboard, it makes a great photo-editing workstation that I can take with me. It handles Aperture 2 and Photoshop CS2/Bridge like Elvis handled women...

I also just ordered a black Speck see-through satin case for it. They look sleek.
And I installed a Moshi Palmguard and Clearguard.
I was disappointed that I had to PURCHASE a stupid Mini-Display Port to DVI adapter for $32. (It was in the box of my previous-gen Lemon, which I graciously returned with the box)

Overall I'm very pleased with my Mac.
Thanks again guys!

Eh?
Does not 'Dual' indicate 'Two'?
I'm not the most tech-savvy, but could you expound on this plz? I thought there were Two graphics cards in the new unibodies, thus 'Dual GPU's'?

I believe he meant that the two GPUs cannot be used at the same time, in the sense that a "dual core" processor can utilize both cores simultaneously. "Dual GPUs" could be interpreted to mean that a primary GPU could offload onto a secondary processor for simultaneous processing of multiple threads of code.
