Your a teenager and you own a 2008 Tahoe, but worry about replacing a $299 phone??? What am I missing here?

This one wasn't $299. I don't want a 3G, I want this kind of iPhone but my parents said that either I buy the new one or just get this one fixed/replaced. Or I could just not go with an iPhone and get a more efficient phone like the Storm, whenever they come to AT&T. Whatever I end up with, I'll just ask for the Storm and my parents will get it anyways. But yes, I own the Hoe, given to me by my parents whereas the iPhone is mine to pay for any repairs/replacements.

wow you don't have to pay for your own car, gas, maintenance on the car which is better than 90% of teenagers out there and you are now trying to cheap the system by getting Apple to replace your hand me down iphone.....

Sadly I'm powered by mommy and daddy too but i do work part time to try to help out and if i were you, I would suck it up and pay out of my own pocket to get the case replace. 2g cases are aplenty now. Have some responsibility for your own things whether you payed for it or not.

In any case if apple does replace your phone its most like to be a refurbish, another used phone that was returned to apple because of REAL hardware problem.

That may be your suggestion, but I'm not up for taking apart my iPhone, voiding the warranty, and giving it a new case with the wrong serial number printed, FYI. This one does have REAL hardware problems [I didn't have time to check for it at the time of OP]. It's not my first iPhone, but I plan on keeping it or whatever replacement I get for it. And if they come out with a better one than the 3G [or at least get 3G service here], I will buy a new one.

Whether it's a "hand-me-down" or not, it's still a free $399 phone that I'd like to get the most out of. I never even get, nor do I need "hand-me downs". If I wanted the iPhone again, I could've just asked my parents, but I don't want the 3G one. This was just an offer I took because I like the phone and I missed having one, and this was a great way to get the only generation I prefer. Even though my brother said it was in "mint" condition

Thanks Brian! I will definitely do so, although I kinda don't want to send it off already! I did notice the correct serial number on the box, so I guess I was having a moment and forgot she even asked for it, because that's the first thing that hit me after I hung up.

And this one is defective! It looks like it's been through a lot and is starting to show it. I wrote the OP a few minutes after I got the phone, so at the time I didn't see any problems [it was dead]. Then it got hot and when I tried the camera later, it seems to have a bright fuzzy effect or something. Plus, the Apple rep I spoke with said it would probably have to be replaced rather than repaired.

If I wasn't grown up, I'd probably be immature and post in all caps filled with curse words. Because everyone assumes that all teenagers have no respect. I came here asking for honest advice, and I chose this forum because of lots of the kind posters I see here, but I didn't expect this. I'm sorry for asking something and just want this thread deleted.

This is where my problem lies. Just because your iPhone looks like it's "been through a lot" and "it's starting to show it" doesn't mean it warrants a replacement. Whether it was you, or your brother that put it through a lot is irrelevant. Chances are the amount that its been through, has somewhat caused the defects in the phone. Dropping electrical goods doesn't do good things to them, mis-treating them to the point of putting several scratches on a GLASS screen isn't the best thing to do to a sensitive piece of high-technology.. is it?

And yeah, you say it wasn't you that did it.. but that's not the point, just because it was your brother that did it, why do YOU deserve a replacement.. you want another first gen? What did you do with your FIRST first gen?

Second problem.. you say you came here for advice, because you're mature and awesome etc, but then you get advice you don't like, simply because the info you gave basically stated "I'm spoilt and I want a replacement" and don't accept it, you bite back and if you're going to do whatever you want anyway, just do it, and don't brag about all the awesome stuff you have or what your parents will give you, it's not needed, and it won't earn you respect.

Most people here work damned hard to get the goods we talk about, some, are lucky like you and don't make a big deal out of it either, some are humbled by the fact they have a fortunate background. Some are obnoxious.

Either way, consider what you're actually doing, if you want a new looking iPhone, I would personally suggest you buy one, because cheating a system puts the prices up for everyone that does work bloody hard for what they get.. and we want nice stuff do even if we're not fortunate enough to make a flippant decision about what mummy or daddy will buy us.

Dude your phone is going to inevitably get little nicks and scratches over time anyway. The sooner you accept this, the more enjoyment you'll get out of your phone, as you're not going to be paranoid over handling it over and over.

That's great, but my previous post answers states that I wasn't the one who put it in this condition. I'm just afraid that an iPhone in this condition is going to have hardware issues and I would like it replaced when it does, or possibly before it does, sometime before the warranty expires. I would have a 3G but there's really no point, we don't even have 3G out here so I'd be spending a couple hundred + higher rate plan for a phone that's basically the same as this one. Now, maybe if it had a different user interface...

Don't pay attention to these people. Just say you get no reception in your house and you used to have full signal. Thats it, it worked for me a number of times...

Sorry, no it's not. The phone was ridden hard and put up wet by your brother, and now you're saying it's defective because it's exhibiting problems that aren't unexpected from a phone that's been treated badly. If the phone were new out of the box, or in near-mint condition, the "it's defective" argument might hold water.

it is douchebags like this kid that make me lose all faith in humanity. Actually, the douchebaggery extends to his parents, for making him this way.

Why do some people feel the need to keep a pristine iPhone? It's inevitable that there will be some wear and tear as daily use catches up with it. If the functionality is there, just enjoy using it!
