Changing a hard drive in a MBP is not hard. Just make sure you put the screws in plastic bags and remember or record which screws go where.

I was able to change the hard drive in my powerbook using a mbp hard drive replacement guide..as a guide. The insides were quite different but I did it all the same. Only hard part was putting the top case back on.

Those screws are so dang small they can easily get lost in shag carpet or strip their heads when applying too much pressure.

I wish all the screws were Torx. They are easier to work with than the Phillips.

You can always resize if you backup and restore using Winclone.

Thanks for the links. I may do that very soon!

I'm kinda debating on whether to do that now or wait until the new OS and just do a complete wipe of the drive and set it up right at that time.

Whoever said that replacing the HDD in the Macbook Pro yourself does not void the warranty automatically is correct. I read the Applecare agreement over a few times and it only states that it doesn't cover any damage caused by the installation. They may try to bully you if you need repair service, but ultimately they have to prove it was caused by installing your new HDD.

I asked someone at the Apple store if they would do it and they redirected me to a local Apple certified tech center. They wanted $100 just to swap the drive - no data transfer or OS install! It was a rip off so I did it myself and it turned out great. Well worth it!
