Oh, i think its time for me to upgrade to Iphone 4.7 screen. 5.5 is just little too big for a take with me device.

I think the only reason u would ditch the air is because u do not need a tablet. For me, Ipad 2 will be my last. Its heavy, its useless compare to laptop. I think Ipad is all hyped. Apple make u think that you need it, you don't.

If you do need/want a tablet, then the iPad is not hyped, it's exactly what I've been wanting ever since the first laptops came out. But sure, maybe all the attention tablets have gotten has caused people who don't really need tablets to go get one, too.

So, sure, if OP has no need for a tablet, then the bigger iPhone might "replace" his iPad. But for me, even the iPad mini doesn't replace the full size iPads. I got the original mini when it came out, and kept it because it was so light and portable, but I also hang on to my iPad 3, which I used when at home, and kept hoping the next iPad would be lighter so I could ditch the mini and go back to the full size. I jumped on the Air the moment it came out and haven't looked back.

As for the bigger iPhone, I'm not sure. I need a phone that will fit into my pockets. Otherwise, *the phone* would be redundant, as I already have a tablet.

I don't think you will like it.

I've got a Note 2 and still use my mini to do everything.

And I want to replace the mini with an air, as I find the mini too small.:D

Just sold a S5 for a few reasons, the screen size was good but big in the pocket and getting in and out of cars was annoying with it, went back to a 5S.
Sold my iPad air which i felt was too big and just sat on my desk most of the time, bought a retina mini which is so much better to hold and carry around.

So for me no a 5.5" iPhone wouldn't replace my mini.

Had a note 3 too for a while and it was in no mans land, too big for a phone too small for a tablet.

Well look at my devices. Phablet, 8 inch tablet, 10 inch tablet. Nothing really replaced anything. I suggest not ditching your iPad just yet, because you may find yourself missing your iPad.

Well I figured I would report back on my approach. Sold the iPad air and bought the 6 plus on launch day as I originally intended and I haven't looked back since. For me, the larger screen of the iPhone was exactly what I needed to replace my iPad air use while out of the house. I love not having multiple overlapping devices and haven't missed my iPad one bit. Splashtop works great on the plus for my remote desktop needs. Just wish they would have enabled iPad apps on the Plus, but I guess that would have led to overt cannibalization for Apple. In any event I'm very happy with this outcome.

Same here. I have no use for an iPad whatsoever between my 6 Plus and Mac. Apple of course saw this coming - probably why the iPad mini 3 feels more like iPad mini 2.5. Or 2.25.

The iPad mini is all but dead with the arrival of the iPhone 6+, but as a 6+ user it's laughable to think the screen size of the iPad Air 2 isn't a huge difference from my phone

I don't think anyone would argue with your point. For me it was just a matter of the larger screen of the iPhone 6+ meeting my needs previously served by the iPad, so I could consolidate the two into one device. I have an iMac and MBA to cover my other needs. But for some they would still prefer to keep both devices.

I use both my ipad mini and a 6+, would do away with the ipad if the 6+ could run the ipad apps, there are several apps I like that are ipad only.

I have both, I don't think the iPhone 5.5'' can replace my iPad Air 2, I use my iPad to do serious reading. Not easy to do on an iPhone.

I have the iPad Air 2 and the iPhone 6+, and I tried the approach of living without the iPad for a couple of months after i got the iPhone 6+.

Certainly a replacement for a mini, but not quite enough to completely replace the full size iPad. Just another tool in the toolbox, when you need it, you need it.
