I am very glad for people who has just bought the 2020 iPad Pro and sad for people like me who was waiting for this model to update their existing 1st gen iPad Pro.

I know people will say that it is plenty fast, it doesn't slow down..etc which is completely true. But if i am paying 1.5k for an iPad and plan to keep it for 4 years as i did like the one that i have right now, I'd rather not pay for a 2 year old CPU. Even tho, I really want to have the USB-C port.

Some more patience.. :)

As a workaround, another option would be to buy the 2018 iPad at a discounted price, and then buy the 2021 iPad a year or two from now. Apple's product release cycles have become an "all thing's being relative" subscription scenario at this point, so whatever works :)

Don’t forget 4GB—>6GB RAM (previously, only the 1TB model already had 6GB), WiFi 6 and the price cuts.

The only thing “relatively minor” about the update was that the really, really fast A12X wasn’t replaced by a really, really, really fast A13X. In fact, it was a solid update.

A refresh isn’t all about an updated SoC, especially when the current one already screams.

No it wasn't.

A used 2018, 256GB 11" WIFI, is now $650 the 2020 version is $900. You're paying $250 for 2GB of RAM, the lidar camera, and an extra graphics core knowing that the next version of the iPad will be the upgrade to get.

So if you need an ipad now, it doesn't make much sense to get the 2020 version vs a 2018 version. It is by far the smallest update apple has ever released with the iPad.

Hello!

I actualy thought about doing this, but unfortunately here in Italy, i did not find very discounted prices.. I mean, 64 gb 2018 iPad ( 11" model ) was 899 euros when new, and now they sell it for 789 euros. And now the 2020 base model (128 gb ) is 899 euros. So yes, costs 100 euros less than the actual one, but with less storage and less ram. So at this point, it does not realy make sense unless you find a better discount. :(

Used pricing doesn’t count.

Sheesh....every other day it seems there is a contradictory headline about the next Apple product.

Well, if you don't like that, you perhaps should not be on a RUMOR site. ;)

The 18 month refresh cycle is stupid (especially after the last one was such a minor upgrade). But a 6 month refresh seemed pretty unlikely.

Unless you were a buyer of an original iPad 3... That sure sucker-punched a lot of people.

It does if you are keeping it longer. Not always possible to get deals like you see in the US

I am still using the 1st. Gen. IPad Pro 12”, it works well and meets all what I need...... I am waiting for the next big update (e.g. new design, new hardware etc.)

Why would you say “It is by far the smallest update apple has ever released with the iPad”? The only thing it doesn’t have is the slightly faster A13X you want instead of the A12Z it does have.

This 4th gen 2020 update to the 2021(?) fifth gen will be much worse lol.

Rumored to be as little as an SoC bump—no RAM bump, no price decreases, no new 3D LiDAR scanner, no additional rear camera, no microphone improvement, no new WiFI standard. So a screaming fast iPad gets a little faster 🤷‍♂️ Big deal.

I would hope that a new design isn’t coming soon as a lot of people have just purchased a keyboard.

I too am using the first generation iPad Pro. I do plan to upgrade to next year so I think I will give this upcoming iPad a spin. I planned to purchase this years model but decided to hold off for the mini-led version.

100% agree. Never ever in history flagship iPad kept the prev generation CPU.. I wanna replace my 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 but the new one is so disappointing.
