...other than being able to let others use it, not being tied to the wall for power, not wearing ski goggles inside and looking like a toolbag.. The Vision Pro is not a replacement for screens.
Much like foldables, someone's going to have to be the first to make them mainstream for mobile OS and eventually if successful vision Pro will literally be the new thing.

I wouldnt say they look like toolbag anymore than foldable owners look super pretentious. Nowadays it is all about new tech.
I wholeheartedly agree. There's only Samsung in my country if I want to jump on foldable train. And anecdotally, all people that I know who have Fold/Flip has tgeir issues specific to foldable: broken screen at the crease, and/or flex cable issue in less than 2 years of possession.

I saw a Galaxy Fold in the wild. It actually is a beautiful device, I will give them that but even the owner was like "it wasn;t worth the hype or money really."

Motorola is coming out with some consumer price friendly foldables for the razr in United States. I actually like their design better than Samsungs.

The only issue is that it is Android and that's just gross.
A gimmick? That's interesting. My foldables (OnePlus Open and Pixel Fold) work great and I'd never go back to a slab phone. I've been on the foldable train since the Samsung Fold 4 and never had any issues. But to each it's own.
thank you for justifying your purchase that no one asked for? Here's a virtual round of applause.

Yes, it is a gimmick lol. Just like 3D phones. Just like the playstation phone. Just like e-ink display android phones. Just like the Galaxy phone that also doubled as a projector.

All gimmicks that will eventually die out within a couple of years.

But hey since flip phones are back, hopefully keyboard phones will make a return

I’m looking forward to the day when Apple does release a foldable. Not because I’m a fan gimmicks, but because I really want to see the special event featuring the Apple logo with a crease down the middle. And maybe some pips flying out.

I don’t think a foldable iPad would be more appealing; it’s not going to be a pocketable device either way, and given the choice between smaller (but fatter due to fold) or larger (but thinner), I think most people would go for the latter.

The current iPad is so thin that, even if your bag is quite full, you can usually still slide it in. It has quite a nice form already.

I guess it depends how you use your iPad, but personally (given the lack of multiple accounts support) this isn’t really a factor in my opinion.
Like sure, technically multiple people could use it, but that means whoever’s primary Apple ID is the login has all of their data attached and available to anyone who is using it.

Also, we already know that visionOS at least supports rudimentary levels of multiple account management…
For the price they’re charging, I get why people bring this up, but seriously!
AirPods Max are almost $600 and those can only be used by one person at a time. That’s why speakers still exist.
Likewise, multiple people can’t use one headset at the same time. That’s why televisions are still going to exist.

They’re not trying to make the television and all screens killer, they’re trying to make the “headphones for your eyes”.

I agree with everything you say except one thing. I have always had a 3 Dimensional phone and they have worked well.

foldables are a joke. Can’t meet Apple quality, average apple users don’t want a bulge or a display that broke after 10000 opening.

They could be useful but the downside are noticeable

That's fine. I'll continue to rock my foldables...

Foldable phones and tablets save no volume of space and complicate device construction and design while increasing retail price and adding minimal benefit and some drawbacks. Phones are the main portable computer device people use these days and I don't see many people complaining they are too small. I'd like a smaller phone, not a bigger one. Frankly, I'd like to see two smaller iPhone sizes: 5" and 5.6", along with two large ones: 6.2" and 6.8" to give more choice for iPhone size. Thicker more expensive folding phones I don't wish for. Make each size increase of iPhone $100 more expensive than the next size down and get rid of Pro iPhones and focus the lineup on premium aluminium iPhones with tri-rear cameras with a couple of sizes of genuinely budget iPhones.

Nodoby needs foldable iPad, only syusyunye users. Everybody needs iPad with the desent OLED.

On the one hand, Apple is rarely an early adopter of new technology, preferring to wait until the tech has matured to meet quality standards. The first iPhone had 2G Edge wireless when other phones were already on 3G.

On the other hand, I can’t understand the idea of such a large company playing the “or” instead of the “and”. In this case, work on OLED “or” foldable. This attitude is common in startups due to the size of the organization, but makes little sense for a billion (or trillion) dollar company.

This “or” phenomenon plays out where Apple will sidestep projects, for years, to focus on others. The result is always being years behind in one product or another. This played out horribly with a 7 year gap without a Mac Pro and plays out again with recent problems I’m not going to relist here.

My point is why doesn’t Apple focus on this basic business concept: the power of the “and”?

Because there are plenty of other companies who play the “and” game, throwing literally every technological advantage at a product or series of products and hoping that it takes off.
Samsung being the easiest example, they have made basically every kind of smartphone imaginable and yet, despite some of these phones having some incredible technology, tons of it has just been abandoned over the years because no one wanted it or liked it.

There probably isn't a viable foldable option that meets Apple's standards. I've played around with the Samsung Fold 5 and Flip, and the crease in the display is unbearable. It's always there. I can never imagine Apple accepting that level of compromise.
Playing with and owning a Z Fold 5 (or any foldable) are two different things. I'm not sure how you can describe the crease as being unbearable, when every single foldable review I've ever seen (outside of known Apple shills) said that the crease disappears in the background when you are viewing content on the inner display. I also know this from my own experience. I've actually owned five foldables. Before my first foldable, I owned every iPhone from the 4 to the 12PM. My current foldable is the Z Fold 5. To say that the crease in the display is "unbearable" is laughable at best. Everyone has the right to their opinion, but when their opinion is based off a 5-10 minute experience in a store, I don't value that opinion at all. I guess people bashing on products, etc. that they've never owned and truly experienced is a pet peeve of mine.

I guess that's true. I don't have a personal iPad as I have no need for one, but there is a family iPad that gets traded around for watching streaming video, etc., it's logged into a generic "family" account we created. It would be nice if Apple offered the option.

What is taking them so long to bring something they have had on iPhone for years? I guess it’s really just ...
There are actually two different types of OLED technology suited for big and small screens.

Lets's unleash this imagination. Why not both? It's Apple after all. They fold 4 times and the result you get when fully unfolded is a beautiful 55" OLED screen that fits perfectly in your living room as a standalone TV.

Imagine how obliterated the current flexible screen tech will be when subjected to hundreds of hours of pencil strokes.
