You seem to be assuming that Apple intends to force a particular set of values on its users. What it's really doing is saying it wants to apply a particular set of values to its own original programming. There is a huge difference.

That is EXACTLY what they are doing - forcing their own values down our throats. There is no real difference, when any sort of programming is available on there OWN platform!

At the end of the day, who really cares what sort of programming they offer and why is it news? There are a gazzilion other options on apples own Apple TV and apples OWN iTunes.

I still remember that not long after Cook became a full CEO, the Messages autocorrect started obstinately correcting the word f***ing as "ducking", no matter how many times you rejected that correction. I can't be sure that was his decision, but it sure seemed that way.

The reason I stay away from the Apple Keyboard and use Swiftkey, 0 Censorship and it recognizes what I'm typing WITHOUT wanting to censor me. It gives me the option of duck or ducking, but doesn't force it on me.

Take a peek at is different than pony up extra money for though. Am I interested/curious in what they produce? Absolutely. But my credit card bill has what seems like a never-ending list of monthly subscriptions these days. I'm interested in Star Trek: Discovery but I'm not going to sign up for CBS's streaming service because that alone isn't enough to take the monthly charge for, and I suspect Apple's service will be the same thing if they follow this "family friendly" path they're on. If there's not at least 4-5 shows I know I'll watch, I'll pass.

Totally agree about paying for too many streaming services, but my assumption is that this service will be bundled with Apple Music at no additional cost. Initially, I'm guessing it's aimed at adding additional value to those looking at choosing a streaming music service and this is a shot across Spotify's bow.

Holy cow I'd forgotten about that. Errr me for one. Some decent and original might peak my interest but rehashing a classic film as a TV series is just terrible. I also don't trust Apple's PC approach with anything.

HBO's Westworld series was based on a classic film. As was the successful (and PG-13) Stargate TV series. And I enjoyed Kobra Kai (the follow on to the Karate Kid movie). It can be done and as a current Apple Music subscriber, I hope they succeed with Time Bandits.

The ducking thing has been there since 1.0.

For now, you mean.

This is about their service. They’re not going to prevent Netflix from airing sex scenes.

I have kids and I think it’s far healthier raising them in a world where we simply truthfully explain to them what sex is, what violence is and why it exists and tell them good from bad. No need for Apple deciding for us what content is good for them.

There is a difference between your kids watching thrusting of body parts in porn and romantic kissing naked in bed. They're both sex - one can be kid friendly to open parents, while the other is certainly not until the kids are older.

Good good, hope you enjoy it.
I've not seen Westworld TV series yet but the film was not part of my childhood so meh. I guess I wouldn't find it as offensive but at the same time, I can't see the point of it. Westworld was a perfectly contained film.
Skipped Stargate as the film did nothing for me and I had more than enough Babylon 5 to enjoy but the episodes I did catch just rehashed the film over and over.

This is just my opinion but there are some things that really shouldn't be messed with (prequels come to mind).

Because it IS entertaining to a lot of people that aren't as boring as you are. ;)

I'll also add... I grew up in the 70's. Broadcast TV was boring and predictable because it was extremely safe. They tried to spice it up by hinting that they were heading towards a gratuitous scene, and then never deliver, or censor it in a Mickey Mouse way.

To this day I have little use for broadcast TV programming.

I don't NEED gratuitous sex, violence, and profanity... but I appreciate that content producers can add those things as needed to advance a story. There have been a few Netflix or premium cable shows I've watched where you might have seen boobs once or twice in the season -- certainly not enough to turn off the purists, but enough to give the season a TV-MA rating.(And profanity doesn't really bother me.)

I'm sorry but, the "This new level of censorship won't lead to other new levels of censorship" fantasy doesn't work on me, or most people anymore.

Apple not publishing some movies on their own service is censorship now?

Your grocery store probably doesn’t offer sex toys. A classical music-focused label doesn’t offer rap. Are those also censorship?
