I'm no programer so if this is a dumb question, forgive me. But wouldn't we be seeing hints in the coding of iOS8 if this were true? Maybe not just wondering out loud.

while you might see hidden references pop up its might be a private deal atm or it could be held back from the beta builds?

Im sure people are going to be looking now though haha.

so that's why they'll be hiking the price for base model to $300 - dat $1.8 motor...

Would be awesome for games and stuff... I see no reason not to include it.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure you'd be able to turn it off, and I doubt Apple will use it much at all in their stock apps tbh, more of a third party thing for games.

Won't it be used for the keyboard?

The timing is about right since the majority of haptic feedback patents of the mid-90's just expired a few years ago.

If they do increase the base model to $299 w/ contract, then it'll probably be for the 32GB version (with the 16GB being discontinued). The majority of iPhones sold are the base model, so they'd get a nice bump to gross margins with such a switch. Apple also has to be cognizant of the fact that 16GB (which ends up being less than 13GB effective, IIRC) is limiting app and iTunes media sales in some instances.

"The report also notes that this new haptic feedback motor will cost twice or three times as much as the $0.60 vibration motor found in the iPhone 5s."

This explains the $100 higher price tag. It had nothing to do with the memory. :D

Neat technology...

It's becoming like the moot-cycles at Time zones when u play..

I can't wait till we get iPhones like this :)

From a feature phone, to smart phone, to a "smarter" phone...

How far we have come..

As for me, i'll stick with my 5s..... No need to spend $100 extra or so just for this although cool bit of kit.

Oh please, that is the first feature I will and always turn off, if like in those old nokia and blackberry. It only make them feel cheap and it is a battery juice sucker too.

senseg

this sounds like the senseg technology has finally made it to the i device. that would be great. this feature would also be a big help for blind people.

Not Quad Core

"the device is also expected to include a faster quad-core 64-bit A8 processor"

A few articles up

"Apple's Next-Generation A8 Chip Said to Top 2 GHz, Remain Dual-Core"

And yet, it's the feature I miss on my iPhone that my Blackberry z10 has. I find the haptic feedback of the keyboard to be considerably better than no feedback or audio feedback.

Sounds a little like what people on here were saying a year ago about the rumor Apple would put a fingerprint sensor on an iPhone.

"Just a gimmick."
"HP put them on their laptops and they sucked."
etc.

Well if they improved it a lot and it's suddenly an ethereal experience, then I agree with you. But it would have to be less gimmicky then what was on those old phones.
