Apple will look to announce the iPhone 6 on Monday, September 15th ahead of a launch on Thursday, September 25, according to various Chinese media reports citing "inside sources" (Google Translate, via GForGames). The sources also claim that the larger 5.5-inch iPhone will be called the "iPhone Air", with the 16GB version selling in China for 5,998 yuan ($965). Meanwhile, the 4.7-inch version will reportedly start at 5,288 ($850) for 32GB, which is the current price of the 16GB iPhone 5s in China.

The report contrasts with a story from Chinese web portal Tencent last month claiming that Apple would launch the 4.7-inch iPhone on Friday, September 19, which would be in line with the past two iPhone launches. Apple typically launches new products on a Friday, while a Thursday launch would be unlikely.

Furthermore, Apple abandoning the 16 GB model on the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 would make it likely that the company does not include such an option on the bigger 5.5-inch version. A report from Wei Feng last month noted that Apple would offer a 128GB variant only for the 5.5-inch iPhone 6, stating that the storage size difference would act as a major differentiator between both models. It is possible that Apple may call the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 the iPhone Air, as suppliers were once rumored to be using that name when referring to the device.

It is unknown whether Apple will launch both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 simultaneously. Bloomberg claimed last month that company would be doing so, as previous reports noted issues with display technology and battery life would delay the device's launch.

Aside from a larger display, the iPhone 6 is expected to come with a thinner profile, a faster A8 processor, and other new features. The camera of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 is also said to feature an optical image stabilization system, while the smaller 4.7-inch iPhone will use a new lens module.

Hahah Apple is forcing people to purchase the 5.5 inch iPhone. Such a shame.

Yep, but I'm very sure Apple won't be launching a 6 inch Phablet. I'm also sure I'll be buying the smaller 4.7 inch iPhone.

Since when was 6 the cutoff? 5.5 has always been a "phablet".

Just admit you make a silly post, and you will definitely still be buying apple products despite a 5.5 inch iPhone 6. ;)

The post linked to was obviously filled with sarcasm. But in general terms, I'm not thrilled Apple may be abandoning smaller phones entirely for these larger models. I don't see myself ever using a 5.5 inch phone as my daily driver because they look ridiculous when used as a phone. I'm not even 100% confident I'll like the 4.7 inch model.

Really doesn't look like sarcasm man, but i'll take your word for it. I'm just glad there's a choice now, i'm definitely a huge phone kind of guy. I can reach all corners of 5.2 inch phones, so 5.5 shouldn't be too cumbersome.

I'm just hoping we still get a good 4 inch option. It would be ironic if all those who craved larger screen devices get all the choice now, and those of us who loved the smaller devices and laughed at the bigger is better crowd get no real option.

+1
I just hope those of us with tiny hands get an option for a good upgrade. I do wonder whether to bump up to a 5s from my 5 as I do have a justification for using touchID (use my phone for OS maps walking), and save my money for a new ipad or MBA as my iPad3 is really starting to struggle.

yep, 185 (now 186) posts in 8 1/2 years, clearly I'll have to free myself from this addiction

You are missing the point on purpose. It's not about posting too often, but keeping track of specific users and what they've said.

Anyway...

Either you have a different definition of "demolishes" or you're making crap up:

(and if you're being Mr. Anecdotal, I own a 4s, 5, and 5s and the 4s has the lowest battery life of the three)

4s is a bit better in some tests, a much worse in others. But obviously if the batteries are nearly the same size, which they are, there wouldn't be much difference. A 4.7" or 5.5" iPhone should actually have a significantly higher capacity battery which will make a big difference especially when the phone is idle.

That test was on iOS 6.X, whereas iOS 7 has absolutely diminished the iPhone 5 battery life. I can't speak on behalf of the 5s since i don't have one or know anyone that has one, but my iPhone 5 (both of them) get significantly less battery life than my girlfriend's 4s.

too early? the iPhone 4S is a million years old in technology years

Nah, only a quarter million. Still tons of people (like my wife) using the 4/4S and will be for some time to come. Hell, it's still running the latest OS. It's actually my favorite model to date (though I have a 5 now), the build quality is even a touch superior. I'm hitting my 16GB storage in my 5 and I keep trying to convince her to let me sell the 4 and give her my 5 so I can get a 64GB 5 or 5s, but she likes the 4 so much she doesn't want me to sell it. At least that's what she tells me... So it is still too early for some people. Myself, though, I'm not really ready for a bigger screen, I really do like the 5/5s form factor.
