It makes sense. Once (or if) they succeed at making Siri better, it’s smart to have an obvious visual differentiator between old dumb Siri and new cool Siri for those who aren’t as plugged in to Apple features and updates.
We literally just had that. The new glow was exactly created for this purpose.

If it works great no one will care about the name and if it doesn't then no new name could help. They gain credibility with this simply by having something work well, nothing else needed.
Even when/if it does work well, it’ll always have a bad reputation in people’s mind.

That’s like not calling Wells Fargo an evil bank just because they’ve worked well and became ethical over the last 5 years. Doesn’t work like that in the real world.

Bought my 16 for Apple Intelligence, got zip, but hey maybe old dysfunctional Siri is going to channel Fernando from SNL: “It’s more important to look good than to feel good!”

Wells did change the look of their CEOs several times though on their way to “righteousness”.

At the bottom of page three of that list, even.

Who even cares about the visuals for Siri, anyway? If I'm free to look at my phone, I'll likely be doing the task myself - especially given how terrible interactions with Siri can be.

Agreed. I wish it was so much faster and less obtrusive.

For instance, I had it turn off do not disturb mode for me just an hour ago while walking and listening to music.

Is there not a way to have it just say "done" super quick or make a tiny beep or something?

Instead: I'm listening to music and it gets ducked so Siri can say, slowly: "Ok, I turned off do not disturb".

Sigh.

People are complaining that its not the less-than-year-old visual that needs to be redone, but the underlying system of Siri itself. But that's exactly why it needs a redesign lol. They tarnished the product, so now they have to change the image again.

And they'll do it again and again until they have a product people don't hate. And that could be a long way off!

Well, Apple hasn't shown you ANY redesign since the last one, certainly not the one that's being discussed in the article, and they're currently working on releasing a Siri that works as it should. And they haven't released it yet. So....what is your comment?
To first release a better working Siri, and only after that come up with a redesign. You know, priorities and all that.

Apple, the master of marketing hype.

They know the faithful, they know the right words to say, they understand just how badly these people want progress.

Yet it’s all smoke and mirrors.

Instead of talking about it, promising some future improvement, Apple needs to deliver. And soon.

It is well known by now that Apple plans to launch its more personalized version of Siri next year, but apparently the company has even bigger plans.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman on Wednesday reported that Apple is preparing a "visually redesigned" version of Siri that will debut on the iPhone and iPad "as early as next year." However, he did not provide any specific details about the new design.

Gurman said that Apple is planning a tabletop robot for release in 2027. On that device, he said that Apple has tested making Siri look like an animated version of the Mac's Finder logo, but he said the company was also considering ideas that look more like Memoji. It is unclear if Siri would get a life-like avatar on the iPhone and iPad too.

Apple already redesigned Siri last year, but only on iPhone and iPad models that support Apple Intelligence. On those devices, a colorful glow appears around the edges of the screen when Siri is invoked. On older iPhone and iPad models, Siri has an older design, with a circular icon popping up at the bottom of the screen when it is invoked.

It seems like Siri will be getting a lot better next year, with Gurman having previously said that iPhone and iPad users will be able to take action within apps entirely with voice commands. The upgrade is expected to arrive with iOS 26.4.

"With nothing but your voice, you'll be able to tell Siri to find a specific photo, edit it and send it off," he wrote. "Or comment on an Instagram post. Or scroll a shopping app and add something to your cart. Or log in to a service without touching the screen."

A visual overhaul would be fitting for such big changes.

This needs to happen because Siri is a poor mans Alexa in every way, and I don't even think Alexa is that good

Can someone point to a history, or explain, why the progress of Siri is so bad? Is it all because of Privacy-First? For a company that builds everything itself (software/hardware) they have such an extreme advantage. Financially, they also have such an advantage. Is it just mismanagement? I don’t get it.

I don’t want Clippy. I want a kickass Siri.
