Another thing I think people aren’t keeping in mind, just because Tim isn’t CEO doesn’t mean he’s necessarily gone from the company.
He’s pretty much certain to remain on apple‘s board, if not become the new chairman.
Apple has a rule that no one on their board is over 75 years of age, and… oh hey, what do you know it, their current chairman of the board was born in 1950 and it’s 2025..

Good riddance. Apple innovation and creativity has languished with a boardroom accountant at the helm. Apple needs a visionary. It won't happen, but we can dream.

I can see Cook becoming the new board chairman. Over the years he has accumulated a ton of inside Apple knowledge that's very valuable.

Tim has done great and Apple has done incredibly good under Tim. It might be Steve Jobs greatest decision and that man has many. Steve would be proud of Tim and Apple.

I am worried with the direction of liquid ass though. If that's Tim's vision, I think Apple would benefit by him leaving. iOS 27 better present a much more refined and tighter version of liquid ass or it's a failure in its current state. It feels incomplete and something that looked good on paper but not on a screen.

Right, and even products like the Mac and the iPod were not initial successes.
The Mac didn’t reach its first peak until 1989, six years after it hit the market, and it really didn’t become the “Mac” of today until the iMac in 1998, 12 years after the initial introduction.
The first iPod took almost 2 years to sell a measly 1 million units.
We talk about these products now as if they were instant successes the day they went on sale, but that was just not the case.
And yet they killed the iPhone mini after only two years. 😢 😉

You joke but in retrospect, that was kind of a strange decision.
Although the exact same thing happened with the iPod Mini as well so… who knows. At least that one had a replacement even if it was technically inferior in many ways at first.
I have a feeling it’ll come back someday, though, in some form… Hopefully.

I know many posting here don't like Tim, but before you cheer you need to find out if they replace him with someone better or even worse.
Someone worse at least would make it clear that it's time to move on, instead of keeping us in the limbo that maybe, maybe Apple will get their act together again.

We need a design focused leader that will take risks on new technology, someone with long term vision. Apple nowadays can afford it without too much risk to its bottom line. This is a must to get Apple back in the leadership position on the market.

No more chasing a high stock price with buy backs etc. Spend that money on R&D!
We? I don't think you have any idea of what Apple is.

Are you an owner or a customer?

I think Tim Cook will stay until the political situation changes, giving Apple a quiet fall guy. Apple won't say it, but people will be able to point to Cook and say "that's the guy who went along."

How many people actually use AppleTV and what purpose does it serve? TV's have the same apps.

Retail has been dying for years. It's only a matter of time before the stores are mostly gone. UPS/Apple requires a signature for expensive items.

It’s a nice way for me to access apps on my tv without letting the tv manufacturers spy on me (which is basically what happens once you connect your tv to the internet).

There’s also the Apple-only apps like photos, podcast, Apple Music, Apple Arcade and airplay mirroring, plus third party apps such as infuse, play, nebula and lookup.

Very cheap way of extending the Apple ecosystem to your living room, IMO.

The consumer wants amazing hardware. Apple and the shareholders want profits.

I doubt that the new CEO will be an amazing hardware designer.
I beg to differ. The enthusiast - like you - wants that. The consumer bears little relationship to the people on this website. Their priority is not even close to the same. They want "cool". They also want devices that work and look good, but cool is more important to the average Apple customer.

Cook is OK but he's no Jobs.
I think Tim was better than OK, at least during the decade after Steve’s death. It’s only been the past two to three years in which Apple seems to be loosing progress. No, he’s no Steve Jobs, but for a good number of years that didn’t seem to matter given how well Apple was doing.

Maybe now it’s starting to matter again just like it did during the nineties right before Steve returned to Apple and it’s time for a new perspective from the top. Of course Apple is in much better shape than it was back then and Tim Cook is responsible for a lot of that.

I mean, Apple does have an obligation to share holders. Personally I’d prefer a world where these big corporations can be privately owned and focus on design over profit but that will require stock buybacks.
