I hope it's not another "Newton" device, where the vision (no pun intended) was far ahead of what the available technology could provide at the time.

It has to be said: a lot of people who went into the demo believing it was just a hyped-up nothingburger came out impressed - sometimes actually moved. So, I'd say they could sell quite a few of them.

I don't see people lining up around the block for it to buy it - but I could see people lining up to try it.
The vision is definitely far ahead of the technology.

But fingers-crossed not far enough to cripple the Vision Pro. Although we already see it somewhat in the pricing.

In any case, if Apple can get through the production hurdles and bring this to scale, I'm sure we'll see rapid improvements with future iterations.

I still do not think that it will be a success unless there will be a away to avoid ads. On a small smartphone screen ads are already very annoying, but imagine ads on a device that covers your whole view. That is a nightmare.

the more valuable they get as a company, the more out of touch they become with the average person's spending-ability for buying luxury non-essentials
The system is forcing corporations to make up new products because even being the biggest and best is not enough when there is no growth. Sometimes making up new things works, like with the iPad, sometimes it doesn't, like with 3D TVs. Now we are getting a mashup of an iPad Pro and a 3D TV. Only time will tell...

To put that into perspective, 400,000 units is less than the average number of iPhones that Apple sells each day. If suppliers are expecting enough parts to make only 130k to 150k headsets in 2024, that’s minuscule.

Those micro OLED panels are super expensive, maybe even more so than Apple imagined. The mainstream version of this headset will go with less expensive panels for sure.
I didn’t know or even think about the possibility of such a statistic.
And put that way, mind blowing, both ways: iPhone sales numbers per day is insane, 400k Units of an apple device in a full year is indeed minuscule.

So when it ships, how will Apple handle the situation of supply not meeting demand?
Only make it available at Apple retail stores in certain cities?
Only make it available to those who pre-order?
Only make it available to developers?
Only Apple retail store because the have to fit it to your face.

Ad's are already on things that are planned to be used on the headset such as movies and streaming plus I have no doubt there will be an app to watch youtube videos. You can also find ad's in reading apps.

What will make it pass or fail in my opinion will be if publishing houses/publishing companies were to use the eye tracking feature to show ad's when the eye's move over a product brand. So, say for example you have product sponsors of a movie who want product placement within the movie, a drinks manufacturer, a clothing manufacturer, a watch manufacturer, a jewelry manufacturer and when watched normally we would see the name of the product BUT in the headset it would go one step further and bring up a small product info box/square giving info about the product and website address if the users eyes focuses too long on the product in the movie. Remember the day's of DVD's when production companies started putting ad's on DVD's where they prevented you from skipping the ad's and you was forced to watch the ad's before you could play the movie? what's to say this will not happen with movies and tv shows and streaming services?

Once the headset becomes available for sale, I have no doubt movie publishers and streaming companies will purchase one for the purpose of seeing how they can put ad's into it.

Why do you think there will be high demand?
I was a huge downer on Apple’s headset before WWDC. But the demo wowed me and now I want one.

I want to use it as an external monitor when I have to travel and work. I need the extra screen space for work. Everything else is gravy on top.

So if I was a downer before, I’m guessing there will be way more than 200,000 people who want to buy this.

Thus, demand will easily outstrip supply.

- The price.
- The discomfort of prolonged use or the impossibility of prolonged use (battery).
- People having learnt to be wary of first-generation products.
- What's the killer application?
$3,500 isn’t a lot of money nowadays especially after the fed printed trillions.

No idea about discomfort since most people preordering have not tried it on.

The world is huge. Lots of people have lots of money. There will be more than 200k people who want and can afford this.

For me, the killer application is the ability to have unlimited screen space when I’m traveling and coding.

There is no way 200k units will be enough to satisfy demand in 2024.

Absolutely short sighted.
- The price has nothing to do with it, people buying this will outstrip the supply
- Comfort / battery matters none, people buying this will outstrip the supply
- LOL, people buying this will outstrip the supply
- It's right there in front of you and yes, people buying this will outstrip the supply

They should sell it with some sort of self-destruct if you don’t activate it within the warranty period. ;)
Like a battery that eventually expands and cracks the frame/lenses/screens.

But that might have happened with the recently sold sealed original iPhones, too. If the box is still sealed (which apparently is where the value lies) then no-one will know, anyway.

No, the point would be for it to be a guaranteed mechanism, so that everyone knows that they’ll end up with a brick after two years if they keep it sealed.

Anyone who thinks the Vision Pro won't sell belongs in the same camp as those who said the same about the iPad and Apple Watch. Just because you can't afford it, doesn't mean its a bad product. Just because you don't see it as an everyday product, doesn't mean others won't. We are talking about the future of computers, not some fad like larger phones sizes.

It's the price of a mid range studio Ultra, every single one made will be sold! Ultra wide Oled monitors cost over $2k alone, to put it into perspective!
Who says it's uncomfortable? You can get additional battery & swap them out.
This tech is way too far ahead of the curve, for people to be wary!
Hand & eye control is the killer app as well as the ability to have any size screen, without the need for a physical screen!

Don't forget that this device is only going to be released in the US initially.

I personally think the inflation and devs not having the budget to invest so much money into a first gen product that may or may not work on a limit number of users might just kill it. Developing for that thing cannot be cheap. No users = devs not willing to invest. No apps = no user getting the device. It is a vicious cycle.

Happy to get corrected however ;)

It can't be worse than those addon screens and it should be much better than an iPad via sidecar.

Computers have cost that and more for a long time. I had an Ad back in the day showing PC's costing up to $3k. Yes for a complete system (Monitor, Printer, PC Tower, Speakers and Modem). But those sold just as well. Mac's during the 90's and up to now can easily cost that much. This is a wearable computer, and factoring inflation. It's cheaper than those old computers and way more powerful.

The discomfort issue kind of gets address by the fact that you get it fitted. So, while it may be more uncomfortable vs a pair of sunglasses or prescription glasses. It should fit well enough to be comfortable for the few hours its meant to be used continuously for.

People will always be leery of first gen stuff. But, there are plenty of early adopters of everything too. If this works as well as the reviewers say it does. There should be plenty of sales for this thing.

The killer application is that it is a wearable computer. If I could think of a few of the top of my head that would be a great to have:
1) Traveling (Plane, Train, Car). You have a big screen to either get work done OR enjoy entertainment.
2) I'm a Dj. I don't need to carry "anything" anymore. Dj App eliminates a laptop and mixer.
3) I can eliminate extra monitors on my desk.
4) Back to traveling. This is a universal translator, both visually and audio to trips to foreign countries.
5) Fitness. Which I'm surprised they didn't show something with that functionality.
6) Audio/Video recorder, and in 3D if you want.

There will be plenty of apps to merit this thing existing. I originally predicted 1M sold in 2024. I still hold that, as Tim will get additional suppliers online. That is what he is good at.
