Very nice specs IMO. There is plenty of room for choice of tablets out there so I hope people aren't too up in arms about this.

Keep em coming!

When was the last time you thought of BB web browser as "uncompromising". I never have, and still done.

Seems like all the other tablets only with more marketing pizzaz.

Two things that stand out for me:

1) Availability in 2011 suggests that this won't be up against the current iPad but its replacement. Interesting that they'd announce this so far in advance and I can't help but wonder if RIM would have been better off keeping quiet until a little closer to the time.

2) The processor is.. interesting. Assuming that this is scheduled for the first half of 2011 (surely it must be if they're showing it now) then dual core A9's aren't far away. If the iPad is indeed on a yearly cycle and the new one rocks up in April 2011 then its getting increasingly likely it may be packing something similar to the Playbook. Considering iOS isn't exactly a slouch on the current generation that could be a major jump forward, especially if Apple can incorporate Grand Central (or a derivative) into iOS.

Everytime I have to use my wife's blackberry I feel like either throwing that piece of s... into the wall or puking.

I wonder if it will be any different with this.

Great bring on the competition. It will drive Apple to make more and more better products, so either way we all win. :)

It also looks like a very nice well designed tablet, with a much better user interface custom designed for the task compared to the Samsung Tab.

The video looks good but what about real world? Not out until next year so Apple will leap frog...

All these companies that dissed the pad are now copying it - the sincerest form of flattery and a distinct lack of imagination. Will in the final analysis serve to confirm pad as the gold standard, and besides, I prefer the bigger form factor. Tethering is cool so hope Apple open up on that one though, networks permitting.

Good luck Crackberry.

# HDMI video output

killer specs we will probably never see in any ipad...

you can do divx now with the vlc or vcl? app. i could care less about wmv. hopefully the next ipad gives you retina display, front/back cams and 128 gigs of storage.

IF ONLY THEY'D RELEASE IT THIS YEAR INSTEAD OF NEXT YEAR IT WOULD'VE MADE A KILLING. TOO BAD.. By the time they release it next year, iPad 2 will be out. Now the competitors know what specs to outdo.

Doesn't look business..

They are targeting business and the first things they show are digital camera, photos, music, then they show a boring business office for like 5 seconds and it doesn't even have the pad in the shot, next thing you see is it playing NHL sports in a flash player on vemo, a park bench reading books, more youtube, flicker, chatting on AOL or something... yah, such a business device!

"the first multiprocessing".. then "multitasking", tricky way implying they are the first, but they aren't. then it's called the PLAY book.

I'm confused on their message.

competition is good....some pretty nice specs, gonna have to give it a try before i make any judgment

Looks amazing, but the apps just won't be there.

According to BlackBerry's site, applications are written for the Tablet OS SDK using either Flash or HTML. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see many people jumping on that bandwagon. :(

I don't like BB but this looks very promising.

I wonder if BB would beef up the BES to make this even better for corp. users.

Great name. Playbook is actually a really smart name. Kudos to RIM for that.

Just a reminder though that comparisons to the iPad are pretty much useless. Playbook will be available between 4-9 months from now putting it up against iPad 2 or even 2.5.

Will Playbook specs look that impressive against iPad 2? I'm not so sure.

I imagine throwing enough CPU and RAM at the problem will make Flash development viable. What will happen to battery life is an open question.

You can't tether an iPhone and iPad without jailbreaking.

False, you can pay for Tethering on an iPhone.

But you can't tether it to an iPad without jailbreaking the iPhone.
