agree with exchanging it..if you're not spending anymore time/stress/$$ doing the exchange, then why not getting a higher spec for the same price

Do it!! A lot of people don't have the option, but YOU DO :)
That's quite a lot different on the new graphics card 256 vs 512  Not to mention the CPU, but you wouldn't really notice it anyway :)

If you got the 13-inch, then I'd say it doesn't really matter. For the 15 and 17-inch, I'd say is a nice hardware upgrade :)

You already have a legitimate laptop. It is a waste of money, time and anxiety to upgrade it like that. It is not a drastic difference.

Then again, if you want it so badly, who or what is stopping you?

the CPU isn't a drastic difference. but the GPU could have a near 2X improvement over the 6490M.

You are fool if you don't return it and get the newly upgraded one.

unless, of course, your work is very time critical and you are going to be losing enough money to not justify returning it.

Get the new one man.
Its a really a no brainer.
Get your money worth.
You might not notice a difference but why get a computer which is slightly lesser in specs for the same price.
Enjoy your macbook pro 15" :)

I will happen to render 3D objects sometimes but not that much at all. I dont play games that much. A bit portal haha.

Would you get the newer one?

You've got nothing to lose but your time by exchanging it.

So yes, I would return it and get the better computer for the same price.

if you can get it for free, why the heck not?!

DOOO ITTTTT

JUSTTT DOOO ITTT

Hello everyone. I just bought my Macbook pro 15'' 2.0 ghz quadcore a week ago. I did not get it yet, but it has been shipped.

I can still resend it, get my money back and buy a new 2.2 ghz one. Itll take like a month or so, and I really need a new computer now since my old pc is dying.

I edit videos and do graphics. Does 0.2 ghz @ quadcore really make that much a difference?

Call Apple and tell them you ordered the wrong computer. They will send you a return label via email then send it right back. I did this for a MBP I got from FedEx today and ordered another.

Biggest reason to return is, as others have said, the 6750M graphics.

Another reason is the CPU bump, and not just for the 0.2ghz increase. The i7 2720QM in the 2.2 also allows for 1600MHz RAM to be used, instead of the 1333MHz max in the 2.0 model (2630QM).

FYI, the new 2.2Ghz chip in the base is not the i7-2720QM, it is the new i7-2675QM. Same base clock, but lower turbo speed (3.1Ghz vs 3.3Ghz).

I'm exchanging mine. I actually quite like the unit I received which runs cool and quiet, but I know how things are with resale value and I'd rather have the last revision of the last generation for resale purposes.

I had no problems whatsoever with Apple. They've sent TNT to come collect it today (Called Apple yesterday evening, UK time).

What so the old one can actually run faster?

With MBP's not so great thermal management, you won't be running at the max turbo mode.
Besides, what you are going to be doing are heavily multi-threaded.
The high turbo mode is for single threaded process.

Anyway, looks like you don't want to return it.
Hell I can't make you to return and get the new one.
Well atleast it's good for Apple.

So apple just came and took it again?

I have to somehow send it in again. Dont know how really.

I just bought by 13 MBP 3 weeks ago. I am not going to upgrade to the new one for that small a spec bump. I am happy as hell with what I have. I threw in 8GB of ram and for photo editing it works perfectly. To me people are obsessed with having the latest version even though what they currently have is a great machine. I dont get it.

You're just salty that you're out of the return window. It's simple common sense, you're getting more computer for the same price.

No i'm not. For most people the small spec bump will not make a difference. I have enough friends at Apple that if I wanted to get the new one I could but I dont think its worth it for me. I am happy with the laptop I have and when I add the SSD in the next couple of months I will be happier.

You're right man, for people who want the 13" that's fine, as the upgrades to them were very minor.

If I'd bought a base 15" three weeks ago, however, I'd be pretty annoyed.

I just finished the online process to switch my 2.3 to a 2.5
Quick question....I installed my own SSD with lion and all my apps. Will I have an issue Swapping that drive when the new MBP arrives? I'm so used to driver issues in windows world and wanted to know what some of the experts say. If not I can reinstall everything fresh but just wanted to save some time. Thanks

Well, TNT came and picked it up, but it was all set up by Apple. Just call Apple Telephone Support and ask to make a return for the new model and they will probably give you the options available in your territory. I even offered to go drop my unit at an Apple Store, but they preferred to have a courier come to my house to collect it.
