As a developer, I reported this problem with video to back it up showing them what happens between two phones with iMessage and was told by engineers that this is normal behavior. Hmmm guess they should have paid more attention to me 2 months ago.

If you tap and hold on the message bubble, you get an option to send the message as an SMS. I do this when my iMessages freeze on about 90% progress. Not a fix, but it gets your message out the door!

I have two iPhones right now due to switching from AT&T to Verizon and having to wait a week to port my number.

My old iPhone was not sending iMessages. The status bar at the top for sending would never get filled and it would just sit there. iMessages works fine on my new phone. I just did the network reset and the old phone is working fine now.

Had problems with a group message at the time of updating to iOS7 (often a message would only go to one person in the group, sometimes the message would go through as a green text). Ended up starting a new one, but it was a bummer to start a new thread.

On a kinda related issue - anyone having success with videos in photo stream (now called 'shared')? I posted a video seconds in length to a stream, and all it does is spin, never plays. Pity, as I was really looking forward to adding the odd video to a few family shared photo streams.

My fix was to change my iCloud password.

Facetime and iMessage use both a Server Token and Device token. Erasing device and restoring from backup resets the device token and resetting your appleID password resets the server token.

I've had this issue as well and holding power/home to reset seems to work for me the 2 times it has happened.

iMessage is an unmitigated clusterf--k on ALL my devices (iOS6 and OSX 10.8). Some messages only reach my iPad, not my phone. Some messages sent from my phone will not arrive etc.

They are all sending/receiving from the same account, but the devices don't sync and stuff gets lost.

I have disabled it on all my devices. I have unlimited text anyway, so no pain but I rather liked texting from my iPad/MBA.

The only cloud-based syncing that works well for me are Contacts, Calendar, Notes and Reminders.

Ever since iOS7 i'm having this problem on my mac.
I use messages on my macmini and half the time it doesnt send messages unless i try it a few times.
And since they went with fancy smancy new things if someone sends me a message i get it on my phone/ipad right away, and takes forever to show up on the mac, if at all.

It just works....;P

This has been happening to me on and off again since I downloaded GM build. Still happens now that I'm at 7.0.2. Very frustrating that it doesn't fall back to regular text messages.

Make sure the "fall back" feature is turned on.

When i upgraded, the "Send as SMS" toggle was off for some reason.

Maybe the answer, maybe not...

...we found going into Settings:

Settings->Messages->Send as SMS to On. May fix problem of texts sometimes not going through :)

My guess is ios 7 is trying to yes iMessage all the time and when fails (Apple servers overloaded etc.) has no backup. Setting SMS to On allows the OS to use your cell network to send messages.

Just got off a chat with apple support. The steps that solved my case was

1. turn imessage off
2. hold sleep & home button until you see apple logo
3. turn imessage on

It's not solved for me.. for a while at least. and then you don't have to worry about resetting your network settings and losing access to previously connected wifi spots.

Too glad I'm still on iOS 6
I had issues last night. I'm on 6.1. People on iMessages suddenly turned green, messages failed. Mine were sent to an iPad, so SMS fallback wasn't an option. Don't know if the stats in post #1 looked at that.

Restart fixed it.

I thought I was the only one having issues until I saw this thread! iMessage continually hangs up for me and then will not revert to text message. I have reset my phone on a few different occasions. It seems to be better for a few hours and then the issues begins again. At least I know its not me alone now

Hmm, I'm curious though. Does it have to say "not delivered" when it hasn't been delivered? Just sent a text and my friend didn't receive it, even though I got no error message. Do you guys always get the error message when the text hasn't been delivered?

Good grief. I thought I was going insane. My wife's iP4S has been having this issue and it was driving me crazy. Power cycle clears it temporarily.

Another thing - we use a single Apple ID as both iTunes and iCloud account across 5 devices (I know, that's not what you're supposed to do but it is required to track/manage all devices in one FindMyIphone session).

My wife's phone constantly gets confused about where to deliver iMessages despite selecting only her cell number. The phone just randomly adds back in a second device cell number from our group of 5. This happens only on her iP4S.

Better idea would be each iphone use the same ApppleID and only turn on Find My iPhone service on that account. Then each person have own appleID they use with the other services and imessage and facetime.

While having my issue with iMessage, I also noticed that Find My Friends would not locate anyone. Once I restarted, both worked. Must be related?
