These instructions sound like the sort of thing you do in windows... Not in an apple OS.

using an iPhone 5 on iOS 7.0.2. with iMessages hanging on Send. The problem would resolve itself but come back.

I tried the network reset suggested in this article, but just now as of Tuesday, October 1 at 5:15 pm edt I am experiencing the same hanging issue,

So, the network reset did not fix the issue, at least not for me.

The steps here fixed my issue for 15-20 minutes and then I suffered the same problem, iMessages hang while sending. All was ok until I installed 7.0.2.

happened again today, as I just found out. Also occured in iOS 7.01 so i don't think it is an issue with the new update.

For all those saying the problem is because the option to turn on sending as a text is off, it is not. That option has always been on for me yet it just hangs on sending and I do not know it until I do not receive replies after a couple hours. Annoying as heck

BTW, rebooting the phone always works to fix the problem, but the next day, it will just come back

My problem is also back after doing the network reset. I have SMS on and failed iMessages are not being sent SMS.

I have the same problem.. The solution only fixes the issue for a little while.

I've had the original iPhone, 3G, 4, and now 5. I have never had to reinstall the os on any of these. You either had a faulty devise or just didn't know what you were doing. Also I know quite a few people who own Galaxy phones who have had to reinstall their os on S3s and S4s.

And YES I use iMessage.

I don't know. The first thing that AppleCare or a Genius recommends is restoring the phone or iPad when any issues not related to simple settings pop up. I had to restore my 4S twice and my 5 once so far.

As a matter of fact if you post some issue here on MR, the first thing most users recommend is to restore :D Of course YMMV ;)

I tried the network reset and it did not work.

I really wish that MR would post an "update" like they usually do advising that the suggested solution is in fact not a solution and does not work for all users.

Following up on my post a few above ....
While at home on my wifi I noticed that iMessages was working fine on my iPad mini (also on iOS 7.0.2.). I could even reply on the mini and the iMessage would show up on my iPhone. But no iMessages going out. Weird

Placed a call to AppleCare. They just want me to restore via iTunes. Whatever. I just wanted my issue in their database.

Wife (noticeably upset): "Honey, where where you after work!?"

Husband: "Uh...hun, what are you talking about? Didn't you get my text message?

Wife (now more upset): "Uh, no. You didn't send one. Don't try pulling that card on me"

Husband: "No, hun, really, iMessage was down! You must not have gotten my message!"

Wife: "BUT WE DON'T EVEN USE iPhones!!!!!"

Husband: "Exactly! That's how bad it is!"

i07 has many, many bugs. What is Apple thinking? This is not there normal quality of work.

I could only fix iMessage by doing a complete clean reinstall.

My iPhone 5 battery now drains in 5 hours, where before I could go all day !!

A lot of people I know are pretty upset with Apple right now!!

For all the posters saying they've never had to reinstall the OS, it just makes you look naive. I've seen tremendous gains on very fast, usable iDevices that weren't "broken/failing."

So this worked for about a day, and then today it stopped working again.

I'm going to try the process again, but it's SUUUUUUPER frustrating!

A quite easy fix for undelivered imessages

All 3 of the iPhone 4S phones in my family had this issue following an update to iOS 7 early on after its release. I noticed that when I tried to send a message to another known iPhone, I would get a delivery failure notice. Holding down on the message bubble would give me the option to send as SMS but I wanted to be able to send by iMessage to other iPhone users. Since implementing this simple fix on all 3 phones, we have had no issues using iMessage.
Here is what worked for us. Give it a try and it doesn't require changing of network settings or resetting your phone! :) After upgrading, you must set up iMessage like your starting from scratch.

Go to Settings/Messages/turn on iMessage(if not already on)/tap use your apple ID for iMessage/enter your apple ID and password/tap sign in/choose which phone number or emails you want to use for iMessage.

Here is the apple.com link. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
http://www.apple.com/ios/messages/

Would love to hear your feedback if it works for you!

Regarding the iMessage problems, if you double-click on the iMessage message that has failed you get the option to 'send as text message' which has worked every time for me.

The only solution that fixed this problem on my ipad was Apple replacing my iPad

so are people still having this issue? I am. resetting network settings does not work, restoring my phone has, but then its back to not working in a few hours, I restored my phone 3 times yesterday. Also at one point my phone didnt want to pick up my home wifi either, i tried everything, and the only thing that worked was a restore, but when i restored from back up it didnt work again so I had to restore as a new phone again. I am assuming this is all issues with iOS 7.

Oh yea, you use iOS7 and you are so cool and soo young.

I said I'm still on iOS6, not that I will never update to iOS8. Come on

This former fanboy is so dissapointed with I07 he's starting to think Android.

Sort of like the way you know you are getting old: when Lincolns and Buicks start to look snazzy.

The fix doesn't work for a friend either. I thought I had the issue too, as whenever I tried to message them, I got the "could not deliver" message and option to send as text, but mine's OK with another friend.
